Forced sterilization is part of the official definition of genocide. Forcibly taking away the x-gene would definitely be equivalent in this alternate world.

Mutants are humans and can still have kids so no lives are being lost. Sorry, this one of those things that don't translate well to real life this is like a vaccine that eliminates albinos in real life something is fine when it happens but since it might have some negative effects you would avoid it happening. A mutant vaccine is not a genocide, mutants aren't an actual race/species and wouldn't be described as one in the real world. They push mutants as a race or species because it makes for a good metaphor but nothing about mutants behave like an actual real species.Vaccine/Cure stories are BAD. You shouldn't/can't cure a species. Mutants being cured mean that mutants are a trait in humans just like male pattern baldness, blue eyes or obesity. Someone made a vaccine to take away genetic obesity nobody would really be complaining about it. It wouldn't be called the genocide of Fat people.
