hero: Grimjack. Probably doesn't even consider himself a hero, but he did a lot of good, and sometimes even worked for free.

villain: The High Papal Lord. Sure the Dreadstar comic was originally published by Marvel's Epic line, and Dreadstar himself first appeared in Marvel's Epic magazine. But the High Papal Lord was introduced in The Price, a one-shot black and white magazine published by Eclipse Comics.

I always liked Mugen and Jin from Samurai Champloo.

    Lone Wolf and Cub

    Corto Maltese.

Although not sure he has a main villain/nemesis, his frenamy Rasputin, but I'd say mostly the world; all corrupt gov, opulant, religion, politicos, military.

Yeah, it was basically the Power Rangers equivalent of Infinite Crisis. It was just completely crazy and not something you really see happening in Power Rangers.

Tick or Saitama for heroes. I'd say Saitama, but that could just be recency bias talking.

Didn't know we had that here . Will check it out.
Hopefully it's about Hugo Pratt and the awesome Corto Maltese, although something tells me it's not.

For hero, probably the Savage Dragon.

For villain, do roleplaying superhero game characters count? If so, maybe Mechanon 3000 from Galactic Champions.

Ken the Eagle and Berg Katse from Gatchaman. Battle of the Planets was mind blowing to me as a young child and later as an adult, I finally was able to watch the original series that BotP was adapted from.

I never knew just how great the original series was. Berg Katse was terrifying, assassinating people and assuming their identities with almost contemptuous ease. He and the Galactor truly had the entire world on its knees, with the Science Ninja Team being the slimmest of hopes of pulling out a victory every time they fought. I watch a series of cat and mouse spy games between the Science Ninja Team and Galactor as they tried to find and eliminate each other, each coming so close to doing just that with one of the heroes actually dying (but in true comic book fashion, came back to life in later series).

It's no wonder Gatchaman launched the Sentai craze. What a series!

Ken (Mark, as he was known in BotP) was just so much cooler than most of the other superheroes at the time. Everything he and the other members of the Science Ninja Team did on screen was just so dynamic compared to much of the blander super hero shows during the 70's.

This show and Space Battleship Yamato pretty much started my love of anime.

Does Robocop count? If not him, probably the Savage Dragon.

    I''ll add some more;

At the time of his creation was neither DC or Marvel...

Great character, although a modern creation awesome throwback to the pulps

Although I was aware of them and skimmed the books for the art, I'll admit I finaly came to them by way of the Netflix series.
