Default Spider-titles in the Top 100 for May 2019

    Miles 2 Go used to be the one who would regularly create these threads, so I figured I'd fill in. Sales figures for the month of May are fully released up on Comichron now;

    6. Amazing Spider-Man 21 - 92,538
    10. Amazing Spider-Man 22 - 78,102
    15. Venom 14 - 66,858
    22. Amazing Spider-Man 20.HU - 52,728
    23. Symbiote Spider-Man 2 - 52,088
    46. Spider-Man Life Story 3 - 37,771
    52. Miles Morales Spider-Man 6 - 33,538
    63. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man 6 - 30,752
    78. War of Realms Spider-Man & League of Realms 1 - 26,255
    86. Spider-Gwen Ghost Spider 8 - 24,423
    90. Spider-Man City At War 3 - 23,674
    93. War of Realms Spider-Man & League of Realms 2 - 23,367
    95. Spider-Man/Deadpool 50 - 22,760
    96. Superior Spider-Man 6 - 22,580
    101. War of Realms Journey Into Mystery 2 - 21,919
    106. War of Realms Journey Into Mystery 3 - 20,955
    114. Champions 5 - 19,336
    128. Marvel Team-Up 2 - 17,513

Interesting takeaway is that both Gwen's and especially Miles' books experienced bumps this month. I'm assuming the announcement that Gwen is going to be (partially) added to the 616 is going to do her favors.

I disagree. Compare it's numbers to Magnificent Ms. Marvel. 119th place, 18,386 sales. If it can stay just below MMM's sales, it'll be fine. It's a second Kamala book, remember. Peter's the guest star, we shouldn't expect it to sell ASM numbers.

Or maybe there are people who actually like the book as opposed to people in these forums?

Those are copies ordered, not copies sold. Unless you are joking in which case I accept my whoosh if people are still doing that.

Seems we have a saturation of Spider-titles. Three Amazing, Friendly Neighboorhood, Miles' book and Symbiote...

I mean majority of the books are limited series and Miles, Gwen, and Friendly all experienced growth this month so that kind of speaks to the opposite of a saturation.

That's a second issue, though. The later issues tend to be even lower.

Gwen's sales look like they've evened out and improved which, to me, tells me they really shouldn't be wholesale relaunching her book again. It'll just hurt more then it helps.

Surprised SpOck is lower then usual. Might pick up a little but curious how it will look in the coming months.

Life Story is selling pretty well for a mini. City at War is selling truer to form, especially after how big the first issue was, but not terrible.

I'm not sure how much longer Marvel Team-Up has in it. Three arcs in all?

I'd say it'll make it up to no more than 12 issues, so yeah either three or four arcs in total. The current policy is to allow a series to run for one or two trades' worth of issues.

Kind of what I was expecting to be honest.

Kamala is popular but I don't think she can really sell a comic anymore, let alone Marvel Team-Up when I don't even think a Spidey-led Marvel Team-Up would do as well in today's market.

No, they tried previously with Avenging Spider-Man and it didn't take.

Team-Up books, for whatever reason, are a hard sell for readers today. It's a bummer because probably the two greatest go-to books for me in the '70s were Marvel Team-Up and Marvel Two-In-One. You could always count on an action packed tale - mostly because they rarely were more than one and done stories - and it always gave you a taste of the larger MU.

I think those titles were ideal for the era of newstand sales and spinner racks. Once fans began to crave more elaborate storylines and wanted to read stories that "mattered," the entertaining fluff of team-up books seemed too inconsequential to bother with, sadly.

Don't forget that Avenging was still running when Superior started. It was renamed and renumbered as Superior Spider-Man Team-Up. Combine the two, and that series actually lasted a while.

According to the author this was only ever gonna be a 10 issue series, but I don't know why they don't adapt and just go to 11 rather than restart everything.
