No Buzzwagon or Arkansas Chug-A-Bug either. I would have loved to see a live action hillbilly steering with his feet.

    But definitely agree about Penelope.

    That is one awesome ad!

Oh yeah, that one (and the theme song) cuts deep.
Although the Mach 5 was the hero car, I honestly preferred the look and mystery (which was no mystery at all since they explained it every time he showed up in the voice over naration LOL!) of Racer X and the Shooting Star.

THIS! As much as I loved the Mach 5, the Shooting Star was BAD ASS!!

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Another fun pop culture "cars" commercial-

Several years back the same commercial would have default also included once iconic; Herbie the Love Bug. The (now off limits)General Lee , The A-Team Van, Bond's either Aston Martin or Lotus Esprit, The Bandit's 77 Pontiac Firebird Trans AM, Mad Max's 73 Ford Falcon XB GT, "Bullitt" McQueen's 68 Ford Mustang Fastback, as pictured back the 66 Batmobile , Hornet's Black Beauty, and several Barris classics; The Munster's Coach, Bugaloos Buggy, Beverly Hillbillies' truck, Monkeemobile (and others)

Also once a comic book staple for a generation, not counting as it was usually on the back cover ...

I had the Batmobile the Supermobile and this one. Which to my surprise somewhat had an in comics precedence.

That ad wasn't the first time the Wacky Races were adapted into the real world though…

LOVE Speed Racer's opening theme. One of my favorite cartoons from childhood (along with Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse, which is probably what led me to Batman).

The Speed Racer and Spidey themes were probably my top-two favorite cartoon themes when I was little, though the Courageous Cat one with it's Peter Gunn-style sound was indeed great (I was a big fan of Batman for a few years already when I first heard it circa 1971, however).
