Good lord, I tried watching the original again on Netflix not too long ago. The last time I saw it was a kid, and I thought it was the funniest thing ever at the time. I grew up watching the sequels, too.

Now, I get that you try to watch a movie taking into account the period it was in, the cultural context, how times have changed, sure. But my god, it's so blatantly racist and homophobic all draped in that obtuse flag of "if you're offended deal with it" and "it's just a movie, relax" PC-blaming retort that shitty edgelord directors try so hard to do.

And here's the thing -- of course there were tons of other movies made in 1984. Very few of them would be completely non-racist or non-homophobic according to today's standards, and that's fine. Society changes and evolves, after all. But they weren't nearly as bad as this, both in those terms and in terms of just flat out movie making in general. And those other movies had some awareness of those -isms back then. Racist Looney Tunes episodes are at least shown with a disclaimer, and those episodes still have humor and skill behind it (which doesn't excuse the racism, of course) but all that provides an interesting window in time. But no, not Police Academy. Every gag involving a slur shows the harm of that slur but then piles onto it as if using the movie as a hollow shield and an excuse to keep doing it.

IIRC subsequent films toned some of that crap down (however slightly, maybe) but even then, they were still shitty movies, period. That the last one had to resort to cartoony sound effects was such a cheap move.

Agreed, but as bad as the last two sequels are, nothing's as bad as the prequels. I can't believe they were thought up by the same guy who gave us the classic original. The hell went wrong with him? It's like George Lucas and the SW prequels, why do some directors feel the need when they get older to destroy their masterpieces with bad prequels?

Disagree, the first film is the only "great" film, but I feel the others are "good". Good merely seems bad when you compare it to great.
    Well, maybe 3 and JW:FK.

Disagree, I think Robocop 2 is up there with the original. The rest though not so much.

I'd put Crystal Skull up there for a bad Indy film (although I did enjoy the experience of watching it with my dad). I haven't seen the newest Predator yet, but I heard a lot of people didn't like it. What's your take on it?
I don't find Crystal Skull to be bad myself (I'd still take it over Temple of Doom honestly). It's just, alright.

The new Predator was a mess. It has a few enjoyable moments, but overall it's BAD and it does some things to the lore of the franchise that are unforgivable imo.

As for TSCC, it was actually pretty good, but Fox has a history of cancelling good shows just as they're getting going, and sadly this was no exception.

I HATE The Lost World myself, Jurassic Park III isn't necessarily "good" imo, but it's a fun enough B-movie with a bigger budget. JW has some good moments but doesn't work as a whole, and Fallen Kingdom is just crap.

I'm going to vote Star Wars even though its not up there.

The debacle of Last Jedi absolutely has tarnished the franchise and I think you can blame the dismal results of Solo at it. Making Luke's character into a dick and barely using him. Not knowing what to do with Finn so they just reset his character development and have him repeat the same "going to run away but eventually come back" story arc of Force Awakens all while wasting him in the dumb and ultimately meaningless Casino Planet storyline. Missing out on giving Leia's death meaining - they had a year to work with after Carrie Fisher died so they could have worked some CGI magic to give her a heroic sendoff but now we'll just get an off screen death. Outside of the throne room fight there wasn't really much cool or good about this movie IMO.

Maybe Rise of the Skywalker since its been taken out of Rian Johnson's hands can course correct but I wonder if the damage is done. It probably won't flop like Solo did but I think it could severely underwhelm at the box office and struggle to break 500 million which would be very disappointing for a film of its magnitude.

Leprechaun immediately come to mind. Though the 4th one where they went into space was kinda fun. Though I also liked it when Jason went into space...

Child's Play. I think it plateaued with #2. #3 was boring, and #4 and beyond it became a horror comedy. Which, I guess works for some/most folks (Chucky and Tiffany's popularity).

Why is Evil Dead on the list? Where was its misstep? The 2013 film?

Resurrection is good for a laugh. Especially that fight between Michael and Busta Rhymes.

True. It doesn't help that Ridley Scott refuses to let the franchise go.

I say just do a straight up sequel to Aliens and bypass everything that came after. It would be easy to do as well. Bring back Weaver, Biehn and recast Newt. Just say that the suspended animation chambers were damaged and that is why they are all older (Having been asleep. But still aging.) Then set it where it always should have gone: Earth.

I can't edit the poll otherwise I would take out evil dead and put halloween. I thought Halloween wouldn't count, because like Jaws, it was really just one good one and a bunch of crappy sequels(Yeah that's right I said it!). Also I thought Evil Dead because the first three had something of a following and a specific style/tone and the new one just scraped that for a torture horror film. Maybe it was just me personally but I really hated the tonal shift of the evil dead remake. They took out all of the charm and what made the original three so unique.

Halloween 2, 4, and H20 were all decent imo. And Halloween 2018 was the best since the original. And I loved the Evil Dead Remake myself, and it's the tone that Sam Raimi wanted to have for the original actually, he just wasn't able to for various reasons.

Regarding Predator I think it would have been far more interesting if the focus had been on the 'first' Predator and the woman and the little boy had been forced to team up with him rather like Sanaa Latham did in the first Alien V Predator.
The hero was completely uninteresting, while his soldier comrades were merely cannon fodder. The best one was Thomas Jane, and he was wasted.

Yeah the super-Predator was really lame in that film. Also they took away all of the stealth and intelligence and cunning of the Predator and made it just another generic "smash um up" movie monster there.

It will. The MCU will make everybody forget about Fox's films.

Not likely; the good stuff there will cast some long shadows.
Doctor Strange: "You are the right person to replace Logan."
X-23: "I know there are people who disapprove... Guys on the Internet mainly."
