Agreed on Young X-Men but I thought X-Force was superb. But aside from that, I could never really fathom why they cancelled New X-Men when it had gained massive momentum and sales thanks for Kyle & Yost's work and Messiah Complex. They always say that student books don't sell but I don't really recall that being true for New X-Men, it was more a creative decision to replace it with Young X-Men which backfired spectacularly.

And was outselling wolvering when messiah complex happened.

You could argue that pre-HoM New X-Men always focused on both the New Mutants squad and Hellions squad plus the occasional background students. All their drama was intertwined, and we even saw how different X-events affected the lesser-known squads like Northstar’s death on mostly Anole and his team. Getting rid of Icarus, Wallflower, Tag, all the ppl on the bus did help center focus on Emma’s new team.



fuego take on X-Force. but Young X-Men should never have been made. I did like Carey using X-Men Legacy as the spiritual successor to New X-Men.

The focus was on the 6 New Mutants with the Hellions (primarily Hellion) getting supporting roles. The rest of the kids were largely background material

New X-men focused on X-23, Surge, Mercury, Prodigy, Hellion, Rockslide, Dust, Pixie, Elixir, Gentle and Anole. It had a large cast of core characters

They never should’ve cancelled the book when it was firing on all cylinders. X-Force was bad and Young X-Men was terrible.

Dumbest decision that marvel made in my eyes. To have another year or 2 of New x-Men would of been glorious.

Anole and Pixie weren’t core characters until Quest for Magik while the Hellions in pre-HoM storylines were integral to the plot with the New Mutants squad. Gentle wasn’t really introduced powers-wise until Quest for Magik and even that was for a couple pages but I wouldn’t consider him a core character.

Yea, and it a shame. I want a a big cast of x-babies like in Journey to Magik. In messiah Complex Armor joined the crew and it was almost perfect imo.

I am rereading X-Force right now and it is gross torture porn that greatly mistreated the characters who were in it. It is no difference than what Rosenberg is doing right now except Kyost did it with significantly more blood and gore.

I guess it worked for them because they went all the way with it. And that art was gorgeous! Angel lying naked in a field of corpses is still one of my favorite panels. I mean, it was fun violence!

Kyost shot and killed my baby, saved my baby, had my baby almost get sexually assaulted, and saved my baby again.

So yeah, for a spinoff of 2005's Shadow The Hedgehog, that run's pretty good!

X-Force was MUCH MUCH better than anything Rosenberg has done for the X-line. It was also blessed with better art

AiPT!: Similarly, Chris et Al (@strictlyworse) asked if the other X-Teams’ names like “X-Force” and “Excalibur” are set in stone at this point or do you think new teams could fill a certain niche that these pillars of X-Manery do not?

Jordan: I think we will all find out together soon enough.

Did they just confirm that Excalibur's getting brought back? Looks like X-Force will relaunch as well. Or at least similar teams with possibly different names.
