Quick thoughts

-When did the X-men movies boost comics sales? I mean other than a stray trade here and there like Dark Phoenix or Days of Future Past.

-Marvel and Fox were functionally fighting with Marvel benching X-men(and FF) as a major franchise to spite Fox. Marvel even started the process of replacing mutants as the primary source of natural superpowers with the Inhumans terrigenesis taking its place so Marvel didn't give fox any new creations it could use. They was very little synergy between the companies. Marvel clearly wasn't trying to support the Fox even if it meant hurting the X-men and plus this fine because it made it easier to support the Avengers brand.

- I think can't of any comic book fans who is heavily invested in the comic book storyline who are truly pleased with X-men movies. Why in the world is sales going to be affected the X-men movies was an AU which didn't focus any of the important X-men other Wolverine. There is no book you are picking up that is similar to what the movie presented like an Avenger Assemble. A new fan from a movie isn't getting what they want from a book, A comic fan doesn't get what they want from the movies


- The X-men is soft rebooting with one of big writing name in comics and X-men is back under the fully Marvel brand so Marvel is actually promoting the X-men again. The X-men is going to sell better than it has in years this year. Issue 1 of the X-men book that comes after HoX/Pox is going to be one of the highest selling books in a long time

-Lastly, if "good X-men movies" help sales. Then isn't the reverse true and a stinker that has made 209 million on 200 million budget so far and losing 1600 theaters this weekend hurting comics sales?It is fair to say that X-men Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix hurt the brand badly in the eyes of casual and borderline new fans who will now think the movies are representative of the X-men franchise experience and won't pick up a book. If the theory of movies helping is true.

We are going to get so much leverage out of this.

But in all seriousness, Disney very much realizes that the X-Men as a film franchise were sort of failing due to incompetent writing. Yes, films like Logan and Deadpool were major successes, but those both just proved how broken the main bunch of movies were.

Right now, Disney isn't going to bring the X-Men back as a film franchise until they have a good, safe movie to tie them to.

Unfortunately there's very little cause and effect between the success of movies and comicbook sales. I think most superhero comics are just too impenetrable for the casual reader, with a myriad of titles and relaunches actually hindering the prospect of getting someone new on board. Not coincidentally, where we do have some positive impact on sales it's for titles which are self-contained and easily identifiable, like The Walking Dead or The Umbrella Academy. TPB collections like Infinity War also do well with casual readers, but the impact of Endgame grossing close to $3B on the regular Avengers title is unfortunately abysmal.
