    Default Gorgeous but Stupid Film.

The Untouchables (1987). The costumes were elegant. The sets were delightful. The cinematography was beautiful. The score was luscious. The acting was...fine.

Leaving history aside for a moment, the script was...at best...simplistically juvenile.

What other films are lovely to the senses, but fail the intellect.

I'll go with the obvious one.

    Avatar.

Absolutely beautiful and briefly revived interest in 3D. The plot itself is utterly cliche and forgettable.

Avatar to be sure. The Untouchables belongs nowhere near this list.

Good art or films don't need to be intellectual to be good. But I agree Untouchables doesn't belong on this list. Avatar was dumb tho.

But one that comes to mind is GOTG 2. C'mon a planet trying to take over other planets by growing itself on those planets or something lol. Yeah entertaining ,beautiful( except for young Kurt Russel's chin)but kinda dumb.

Oblivion, the Tom Cruise movie. Visually stunning, but yeah, kinda dumb.

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Top Gun. Nice flight scenes, idiotic plot.

I wasn't looking for a documentary, particularly that one because the story itself is pretty boring. I was looking for a smartly written, tightly plotted action thriller, and it's one of the best of the genre.

Avatar is the template for a thread like this.....I remember being amazed by the visuals but thinking the movie, itself, was just OK. I was excited to get the bluray, and when it finally came out I was bored to tears. It's almost unwatchable without that 3-D experience in the theaters.

Sounds like you just described Zack Snyder's entire filmography.
