Michael Dooney's TMNT: Challenges is an all-time favorite:

Highly recommend the old TMNT! I am currently making my way through and it is a blast!!! I have not read the new IDW series yet but I have heard it's fantastic!

@Celgress, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume 22: City At War, Pt. 1, from the new run or the original?

If you're looking for something 'worthy' try Maus.

Anything by Jeff Lemire. He’s done stuff for Marvel and DC, and I love his Moon Knight, but his independent stuff is just fantastic. Essex County, The Underwater Welder, Trillium, Sweet Tooth, Royal City, Plutona, etc... He really has written a ton of great stuff.
It’s Stephen King Twighlight Zone-ish, thought provoking, stories that are as original as they are relatable. He creates great characters.
