I really like funny/sarcastic/crazy characters. Or characters with a complex and interesting backstory. Even down to earth characters but also characters who are proper out there and unique. I like a good mixture. Any recommendations?

Here are stand alone tpb I would suggest (in no order):
- Transmetropolitan
- Lobo: Portrait of a Bastich
- Joker by Brian Azzarello
- Batman, the dark knight (new52): Cycle of Violence
- Batman: Mad Love
- Penguin: Pain and Prejudice
- The Animal Man by Grant Morrison
- Green Lantern by Geoff Johns
- Hellblazer
- Preacher
- Batman: Strange Apparitions + Batman: Dark Detective <- by Steve Englehart
- Flex Mentallo: Man of Muscle Mystery
- DC: Legends + Suicide Squad volume 1 (8 tpb)
Funny/sarcastic/crazy characters? Sounds like Ambush Bug.
Also Plastic Man, the Inferior Five, Vext, the Legion of Substitute-Heroes, Justice League Antarctica, the original Red Tornado, Uncle Marvel, Brother Power the Geek, the Creeper, Young Heroes in Love, 'Mazing Man, the Elongated Man, Jimmy Olsen, Goody Rickels, the Brotherhood of Dada, Bizarro World . . .
So, Lobo?
Just ignore the New52 version, and you'll be fine. There's even a crossover comic between him and Mask (like from the Jim Carrey movie) and, yeah. It goes off the rails.
Jason Todd/Red Hood is another. He usually spouts off some wisecracks during his adventures.
Hitman by Garth Ennis and John McCrea.
Read Gail Simone's first run on Secret Six.
If you're partial to westerns, I'd say give Jonah Hex a look. He's not really one for humor or snark, but his backstory is pretty complicated, as is he. The Palmiotti/Gray series from 2005 was pretty damn solid.
The Creeper perhaps? He's pretty out there and unique and he laughs a lot.
