Well my love for the X-Men got the better of me again, and I ended up purchasing the Children of the Atom box set - because it's 30% off if you preorder it on Amazon. With the discount, it's about $38 per hardcover volume, 9 volumes in total. I don't own the material, and though I've read it back in the day (thanks Essentials!), I couldn't resist.
