I've never read any of the X-Force/X-Statix runs, but this was really good. Looking forward to "The X-Cellent" next year.

Finished reading this.

Very enjoyable, reminded me of how fresh and different this was when it came out in 2001. Felt like a real shot in the arm and has me looking forward to seeing what Milligan and Allred have for next year. A step in the right direction, albeit a small, kooky, far-removed-from-the-main-thrust-of-things step.

Good dialogue, great art. Plot was a little formulaic, but as a set-up issue goes it ticked all my boxes.

Does it take place in the present or circa 2001?

The dialogue/trappings (Netflix/Youtube etc) places it in the present more-or-less with the events of the previous series only alluded to. As with the usual Marvel case I'm sure it'll be "a few years ago". Enough to warrant a documentary anyway...

If you can get the original issues the letters pages early on in the run are absolutely glorious. Feel the hatred!
