They could also make gory versions of Count chocula, Frankenberry and Yummy Mummy...

Spongebob. Imagine that laugh, while he's stabbing some poor sod with his cooking knife.
That big purple dinosaur whose name escapes me.
Genuinely terrifying. It'd certainly give younger kids a fright.
Avery Bloch's Psycho Psquirrel?
That teaser for The Banana Splits Movie made me kind of angry. It's not that I dislike like the premise, it's just that The Banana Splits look all ragged and creepy even before they become evil. Their show looks muted - horror movie color coding. Surely it would have been much more effective if the costumes and the world of the show were just as colorful and lively as they were on the old show, making the transition to horror that much more visually interesting? Why bother turning the franchise on its head if you're not going to play with a contrast in a fun way?
I know Ronald McDonald scared the hell out of me.
His crew was actually pretty scary too. He had a pirate and a burglar... what the heck was Grimace? Was he sort sort of dinosaur?
The guy hooded claw IIRC who was after Penelope Pitstop. I mean you have a creepy guy in a weird outfit after a blonde trying to kill her in bizarre ways, sounds like a dangerous madman.
Scooby Doo
Quest World from the 90s reboot of Johnny Quest could serve as the basis of a social media horror movie.
