    Default DC Next Dawn Bullpen

    Welcome to the
    DC NEXT DAWN BULLPEN

What is “DC Next Dawn” and how does it work?

Next Dawn, previously known as “New Dawn,” is a fan fiction universe and solicitation game that has been in existence on the CBR boards for approximately ten years! It has gone through several iterations and has survived forum reboots! It’s a survivor, it’s gonna make it!

The way it works is that “plotters” write short solicitations for monthly comic books! They steer established DC characters in series that they develop themselves, putting together teams, villains, artist/writer pairings, concepts and most importantly creative storylines and playing them out each month through entertaining solicitations. Then participants “buy” the books they want to read! Sounds fun, right?

These fanmade books share a universe and continuity, the newest version of which is called “Next Dawn,” e.g., “the Next Dawn Universe.” Its a fresh reboot starting in August, 2019!

The plotters and editors that make up the Next Dawn Universe are referred to as "The Bullpen." This Bullpen page is an avenue for plotters, editors and readers to discuss the behind-the-scenes aspects of Next Dawn, to pitch ideas, promote what is to come, show off fan made artwork, ask questions, etc. It's the proverbial conference room, water cooler, and after hour bar - all in one.

Solicitations are posted once a month. Plotters write up their solicitations in the proper format and send them to an editor before the end of the month. The editor then publishes all the solicitations in a big monthly post. In that thread, readers (including the plotters and editors themselves) choose which books they'll purchase and usually vote in a poll of some kind (book of the month, etc.).

You don’t have to be a plotter to buy books! All are welcome! If you are a plotter, you may and are encouraged to buy your own titles. There is friendly competition between the titles as there are rewards for top sellers!

This is a shared community. The Bullpen Team works together to strengthen each other's stories and together we contribute in building a brand. Collaboration is encouraged. Plotters have "ownership" of the characters in their own books. If a plotter wishes to use a character "owned" by another plotter/title, they are asked to run the idea by the plotter that "owns" that character for approval. This helps keep continuity tight and also often leads to plotters working together and making something greater than they may have even originally planned.

There is a running and updated listed of characters that have been "drafted” to a title. If a character is not currently "drafted,” then they’re available for new books! Pitch ‘em in this thread!

We are starting with a 2 title cap/limit for each plotter. This can expand through participation rewards.

Can you join DC: The Next Dawn?

    Hell yeah you can!!

First, absolutely everyone can “purchase” books they like in the monthly solicitation thread! No commitment! (And it doesn’t actually cost anything, it’s all fictional money).

Also, new and interested plotters are welcome and graciously appreciated! If you are interested in becoming a plotter then just let us know. This is an open universe project so to speak. We're happy to welcome new members and will help you get set up with your own title. However it does require a minimal commitment - a short solicitation, once a month!

We are the “Distinguished Competition” to our sister universe, the “Age of Marvels.” This is the Marvel version of Next Dawn and involves many of the same participants. It’s bullpen can be found here!

Next Dawn and Age of Marvels also have an OFFICIAL WIKI!

This wiki is designed not only to be a resource for browsing our creative work and continuity, but also to preserve our solicitations in the event of another forum reboot. It’s not comprehensive, but we do what we can - and wikimaster H-E-D offers metahuman effort!

    Default Rules

    Rules
Choose the characters, Write the Solicits, Send them to an Editor, Make monthly purchase!

    BOOKS & PITCHING:

*Each plotter can start with two books. Join at any time!

*To pitch a book, propose a basic idea, its cast of characters and its creative team either directly to an editor via private message or right here in the bullpen thread! A book begins with a maximum of 13 characters.

*You can use every single character from DC, Vertigo, Wildstorm, Milestone, or any “DC” brand. You can’t use a character already drafted by another plotter without that plotter’s permission. You can create new original characters and they do not count towards your 13 character limit.

*Before the end of each month, plotters must submit their solicits to an editor. The editor then collects them and posts them in the Monthly Solicitations Thread opened in the DC Forums board.

The editor handling this for Next Dawn will be the esteemed nx01a! So send your stuff directly to him before the month is over!

*Participants then “buy” the books they want! This is done simply by posting the books you like in the Monthly Solicitation thread. The sales period is one month, at the end of which sales totals will be tallied and posted. Purchases must be in before the end of the month (they are accepted until sales are tallied but not after). Participation and top-sellers earn rewards!

    SOLICITATION:
This is the standard solicitation set up to send to your editors. Let’s keep it uniform!

THE AMAZING BOOK TITLE #(#issue number)
    Plotted by YOU_THE_PLOTTER
    Written by AWESOME WRITER
    Art by TALENTED ARTIST
Solicitation body, containing what happens in the issue. Be catchy, creative and check your spelling.
    32 PGS./ Rated T...$2.99
    (rating decided by you!)

    Commitment

When you sign up as a plotter, you make a modest commitment to submit a short solicitation every month. We want to accommodate you! We know sometimes you might miss a month, and hey, we’re forgiving. Just let an editor know either by posting in this thread or via direct message.

However, if three months go by without any communication and no submissions (the old no-show, no-call), a title will unfortunately be cancelled and the drafted characters returned to the available pool. Don’t make me do this, it doesn’t bring me joy!

    Default Rewards

    Rewards

Rewards are based on a point system! Titles accumulate reward points punchcard style through plotter participation and sales victories!

Points will be awarded monthly to the title itself, e.g., Green Lantern will have X amount of points - not the plotter of Green Lantern. You can’t mix and match points either (so if you have two books with 8 points, you can’t combine them to make 16 points). If you cancel a title and replace it with a different title, however, your points from the cancelled title will carry over (so you’re not married to a book if it starts to not work for you).

    You will get:
*1 point for turning your monthly solicitation for the title in on time
*1 point to each title you plot when you make your monthly purchases
*2 points for being the highest selling title that month.

So any given title could attain a maximum of 4 points per month. I will endeavor to keep a tally of these points in this very thread after the monthly sales totals are done.

A title’s plotter can cash in its points at any time for any of the following rewards:

*4 points - “Swap Thing” - swap a character, dropping a DC character you drafted in exchange for picking up a new one from the unused character pool)
*6 points - “Year Plus One” - get an additional roster spot, allowing you to select one additional DC character beyond the 13 character limit to be permanently added to your title)
*12 points - “Legends of the Miniverse” - plot an additional 4-issue Miniseries using available characters.
    *12 points - “Worlds Collide” - temporarily draft a non-DC/Marvel character for a maximum of 4 issues.
*18 points - “Amalgam Returns” - plot an additional 4 issue miniseries crossover between your Next Dawn book or other available DC characters and Age of Marvels or another universe.
*20 points - “Plotter League Unlimited” - permanently add a complete third title with up to 13 available characters.
*20 points - “Crisis on Infinite Points” - create a highly-promoted “line-wide event” book where plotters of other books have the option of tying in. Limit one per month.

Miniseries acquire points in the same manner that regular books do. When the miniseries ends, any points it still has will be transferred back to the title whose points were used to create the miniseries.

    Referral Bonus

Anyone who refers a new plotter, where that plotter then proceeds to submit their solicitation(s) and make pulls for two consecutive months, will receive 26 REWARD POINTS for a book of their choice (or to be split between multiple books).

Active characters are under the control of the person who has drafted them to a title. All of the characters drafted to a title are listed above in the “Current Titles” section. If they’re not there, that means they have not been drafted and are available!

If you’re thinking about characters that haven’t been claimed yet, please search this page (Control+F is your friend!).

Wooooooow....impressive work Exciter. Everything is organized very well, and very creative job with the point system / naming! This all looks fantastic.

Every post I make, it should be assumed by the reader that the following statement is attached: "It's all subjective. What works for me doesn't necessarily work for you, and vice versa, and that's ok. You may have a different opinion on it, but this is mine. That's the wonderful thing about being a comics fan, it's all subjective."

I concur. The system is in place and is both functional and many messy details have been cleaned up. The humorous naming is an added bonus. I assume we're starting off with issue 1s and not issue 0s.

Thanks guys. I think #1s would probably be best. If you’re a contrarian and want to do a #0 instead though, I don’t think we’ll hold it against you.

What about a "free issue" #0 that shipped alongside #1? No points rewarded to the plotter, just an extra world building block kind of thing.

I only ask because Legends has a backstory that would make a good zero issue but not a good #1 lol I can change it to an annual for later though if you want everything uniform, no problem.

I have some material for my titles that could fit in a free #0 issue.

I'm also mulling over changing "Wonder Woman" over to "Sensation Comics", to bring it in-line with how we have "Action Comics" and "Detective Comics" instead of "Superman" and "Batman".

A free zero issue to go with the first issues is something I'd like to do as well.

I'm in total favor of this.
