Looked like HoX and PoX were easily set to be#1 and #2, but perhaps TWD's final issue will get in the way.

That would be a contender, but Kirkman did not tell the retailers (wanted to surprise his loyal fans) so they did not up their orders accordingly. Depends on how quickly they can get their re-orders in.

    HoX will be #2 +-1
    PoX will be #5 +-1

Yes, it's not fair to do this "observational error" =)

The real question is if HoX #1 will outsell Whedon's Astonishing #1 which I think is the highest-ordered X-Men issue of the 21st century.

Only fair if you show your work What book would challenge for top spot? For the rest of the top 5?

Do you think sales will actually be low, like 120K -150K for HoX #1?

Yeah, I can see that issue doing well in August's sales chart.

Thats not a real question. Of course its not outselling Astonishing. AXM had alot more going for it as it launched and it did so 15 years ago when comics were selling more overall. Hickman is inheriting the line at one of its lowest point and he's not as big of a name as Whedon was back then

You make it sounds like an impossible feat when even Black Cat just outsold Astonishing #1 by 50k copies.

Because the Spider-Man franchise currently is printing money for Marvel as seen with all the Venom related stuff (as well as that silly Kraven crossover). X-Men is currently not doing well as Age of X-Man attests.

Sales (units) are pretty much the same. While X-Men was definitely a top seller at the time, the launch of Astonishing X-Men was also competing with X-Men and Uncanny X-Men, as well as several other X-related titles.

House of X is all there is, and while the idea of Whedon coming on had some buzz, a novelty really, no one saw it as the beginning of a new era, a return to the promised land. People need Hickman, and the Marvel variant/incentive machine is a juggernaut.

That said, I'm being conservative and saying 240K.

There's no way HoX/Pox will outsell the first twelve issues of Whedon's run, but with all the promotion and hype, beating the first one seems feasible.

This is a take I would be reluctant to even try to challenge.

Those days were still about consistent titles and back issues. Now, well something else will be all the rage in August.
