Default New Mutants - What is their role in the new era?

    Hello Everyone,

The first HOX issue clarifies what the mission and purpose of many post-HOX POX titles. However, the New Mutants still stands out to me!

    - It is the only title with a mostly predictable (not in a bad way) cast.

    - It is one of the few titles that retained a standard name of an X-Team.

    - The title is being written by Jonathan Hickman for the first arc.

I always viewed New Mutants as a brand as having some of the same benefits and challenges as Teen Titans at DC.

What do you believe is Hickman's big plan for this team?

I just hope they are more than some nostalgia honey trap.
If all those characters keep getting stuck in the same team, they may be like the Titans, yes. A team with good and bad stories, depending of the writers, but irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Hickman is one of the writers who made Sunspot evolve as a writer, so I hope he has some big plans for him.
I wouldn't be against another schism, at some point, with Sam, Dani and Roberto leading a part of the X-Men (and not just X-kids) in a new direction.

So I'm kinda more interested about what they'll do when they come back from space.
Will they be yes-me for the likes of Cyclops, or will they be independant?
And if they bring back Sam with them to Mutantland, will he want to live in a place where his wife would be at worst, not allowed, and at best a second rate citizen?

He absolutely did not. Hickman is not your average writer, and his plan is one that will slow roll over the next year and over. I promise you that whatever he has in store for this next 12 weeks, it's not so cut and dry as "delivering drugs and creating goo people"

Didn't he say he was writing the first few issues of New Mutants as well to get the ball rolling. I am making a guess here because Corsair appears in the first issue of X-Men that I think New Mutants #1 rolls out from the first arc of the X-Men. They may have a mission beyond just getting Sam back.

If we’re lucky, New Mutants is the team that uncovers the horrific secret of Krakoa, and rescues the previous generation of X-Men.

    Did I say too much?

Theye are the ones most likely to rebel against Xavier, maybe that's why he sends them off world.

I'm guessing Mondo will have a connection to Krakoa and that will play a key role in the book's mission.
He's too random to bring back without story reasons, IMO.

No, the last thing we need now is to build up the x-line on very old building blocks. The Hellions were cool, but they were done with.

I rather have that they go usse the most recent big teenage team they fought, the Inferno Babies.

All of them have except for Maurarders (and arguably Fallen Angels which has been used before)

The Inferno Babies were cool. They had nice, original powers and they had that big amount of evilness.
