Well, we do know the girl is named Rasputin, so unless Colossus has a secret sister, hard to say there's no time travel, or at least showing us a future, even if the characters never travel to the past (but there's too much focus on this woman to not have her in an ongoing afterwards).
Hickman said his favorite X-men story is Acts of Vengeance by CC and Lee.
Larraz and Silva both said Joe Madureira is a inspiration for them.
Maybe M being called Penance isn't an accident.
The Penance/Hollow storyline is about the her sisters combining and posing as their older sister. Considering that these hybrids look like mismatched X-Men characters, maybe there is a connection there.
Also, yay Sage. Happy to see her somewhere.
No time travel probably means he's doing another Nu-World thing where an assload of time passes in a closed environment at a rapid pace but still within the present of the normal universe. No time travel, no AU.
I don't blind date I make the direct market vibrate
Dont read too much into Penance. Technically she first time she appeared in a comic, she was Penance, not Monet. Monet were her two sisters combined. This just says M debuted as Penance is her first issue.
I think Tycon's explanation is best.
Penance first appeared in GenX and was revealed to be the real Monet the whole time.
While real M didn't appear until GenX 40, the retcon changed things.
Like said, her first appearance is GenX and not Uncanny 316.
Perhaps with Monet's most recent plot -- Airbnbing Big Brother Marius and then marrow munching Morlocks etc etc -- she's feeling penitent (whether that feeling is warranted or not is of course debatable)
Now I wonder if Red Nightcrawler is a fusion of Penance and Kurt...
Like Hickman himself, I'm grinning ear to ear. Really interesting preview and a total break from the last few years. THIS is what I've been looking for.
As for the future mutants, I hope it isn't a straight time-travel story (I know Hickman said it wasn't, but people lie sometimes) but rather something else. We'll see, though!
What can I say but, "I love comics."
wait... are they letting Sinister on the island?
