There is no version of it that isn't fundamentally broken as a Superman story, but I guess the Donner Cut.

^ That's cold man. Lol I get you though.

I've been meaning to attempt compiling the 2 films in to one, if it hasn't been done already. The Brando Jor-El things work great in the Donner cut, but rewatching the theatrical version it's so jarring to see Lara in his place. Not to mention Superman being completely unaware of Zod and his followers wrecking Earth.

Donner cut. its sad that we'll never really get the film proper from top to bottom, but its the best compliment to the first film.

    Arctic police !!

Poor Zod & his cronies being send to a normal prison. Can just imagine Zod as a prison kingpin with Non as his bodyguard and ruling whichever prison he ends up in.

    "kneel before Zod".

Fun fact: Bryan Singer initially wanted Jude Law to play Zod for Superman Returns. When Law turned him down, Singer went with Spacey as Luthor and another dumb real estate plan. With Returns intending to be a sequel to Superman II, Law Zod vs Routh Superman could've been fanatastic.

Yeah-- I hate Superman II as a whole, but I guess if I had to pick I'd go with the Lester cut. At least it's a coherent narrative when taken with Superman I and not an artifact sequel to a version of that movie which doesn't exist.

Plus I sincerely like the terrorists at the Eiffel tower.

That's a tie for me. Because, Donner's cut gives us his true dramatic-romance intent of Reeve's Kal-El wanting to give up being Superman to be with his Lois, while Lester's gives us the satirical slapstick comedy that I find more entertaining to watch for laughs and nostalgic from childhood.

Neither is what I consider really true or respectful to Superman. Jerry Siegel's Clark wouldn't selfishly give up his Superman responsibilities to the world just to be with Lois. And Lester's slapstick comedy turns Metropolis into just a joke. There should be comedy but it should come from Superman himself kidding around with a certain sense of humor, a sense of fun, and not taking himself and the whole thing so dramatically, but not jokey in a Deadpool way or also not turn Metropolis into a Jerry Lewis slapstick comedy movie. Superman should take crime and injustice seriously.

Jerry Siegel/Joe Shuster, Bill Finger/Bob Kane/Gardner Fox/Sheldon Moldoff/Jerry Robinson, William Moulton Marston under the pen name Charles Moulton/Harry Peter. Creators of the most enduring iconic archetypes of the comic book superhero genre. The creators early Golden Age versions should be preserved. The early Golden Age mythology by the creators are as close to the proper, correct authentic versions as there is.

I wish it didn't have to use test footage of the time travel at the end again but it is what it is and I'm just happy to have it and I prefer Donner's cut. I love the added Jor-El scenes, I prefer the reveal to Lois he's Superman and the taking out of most the slapstick comedy. Last the beginning with Lois in the Daily Planet figuring out Clark is Superman is just great MK was fantastic in those scenes she had that spark in it that made me love her Lois so hands down Donner's cut.
