You guys are aware this is an appreciation thread right? Meant for those who are actual fans of the character? If you guys aren't fan of the characters/writer, take it elsewhere, otherwise I'll have to start reporting.

They have been more proactive with youtube based promotion recently. Not sure about a critics list though that's a new one on me. BTW you can embed youtube videos. Especially official marvel ones.

It makes sense, YouTube is a growing market for comics so to put how critically acclaim knowledge about a character that made a huge splash in the standard media makes sense. To be honest, it was arguably the top 3 news of their panel.
    That, Blade, and Black Widow.

They released one for House of X the day after, so maybe it will become a thing for well reviewed comics.

Loved the issue! Some have commented on the more grounded, street level stuff... I wasn't really sure how I felt about that, along with the old school secret identity. After thinking it over I think it's a case of "If you can't be better, be different", in a way. By that I mean Jane just fought a war for literally everything. She can't really go onto something bigger with higher stakes on a larger scale, so they brought it down a bit and went with a different kind of story. I think it's an interesting choice. After years of huge battles, universally relevant villains, living with gods, being a god, dying and everything else, I'm interested to see Jane in a more grounded setting, with more personal stakes. I've seen the huge cosmic stuff and now I'm excited to see a different kind of story on a different kind of scale.

I don't think the street level thing will really be a persistent thing, though. From solicits, she is going to be going multiverse hopping, which is far from street level. The street is just where the sword happened to be, and Bullseye is a street leveler. My best guess for the guy calling the shots here (and also likely the casino guy in Loki's book, so maybe a teamup down the line) is the Hood, who has a history of going after Asgard, and he's like this weird mix of mystical and street level. Like he thinks like a street leveler, he thinks in terms of pulling heists and the like, and wants to be a crime boss, but he's got this powerful magical artifact and pact with some demon giving him his powers, making him more powerful than most street level villains in terms of raw power, and he tends to go after bigger targets, like repeated attacks on Asgard. Which kinda jives with what may happen in Jane's book, sort of a mix of the two. Since I presume the secret identity and this Lisa character will be sticking around, which will keep it more grounded, but on the other hand she's a Valkyrie with a magic weapon who can travel to Valhalla and Asgard to chat with literal gods any time she wants. so I wouldn't really classify it as street level os much as her trying to live in both worlds.

Lisa's not a new character, by the way. She's America Chavez's ex-girlfriend, who she dumped at the beginning of her solo book. She was created by Al Ewing and debuted in the Ultimates story in Avengers #0, the prelude anthology for the ANAD era Avengers line. Ewing obviously figured that since she's from a medical background like Jane, and they've both been dumped by superheroes, they'd make good friends, which is why he brought her back in War of the Realms Omega.

It's also this, combined with the more grounded approach, that is giving me the belief that it's more Al Ewing driving the story forward the Aaron. There's too many things in the book that aligns more closely in Al Ewing's wheelhouse for this to feel like a Jason Aaron's book. That's the thing when it comes to combo-writer books, it can appear hard to find that perfect synergy.

Using the Fast Five was definitely Ewing's idea too. He does like his Sentai tropes (as seen in the American Kaiju arc in New Avengers - they fought him using a combining robot not unlike the Megazord!)

Ah, I knew I knew her from someplace, thanks!

And yeah I suspected as soon as I heard of this that it would be a case of Aaron providing some plot, and Ewing scripting, that's how it went down the last time they were co-credited on a book. I don't think it is a case of failing to find perfect synergy, I think they knew this was going to be how it went from the beginning, because that's how it went on the Tenth Realm. not every shared writing credit necessarily means equal participation.

Thank you for this! I thought it was so weird that the book narration mentioned that Lisa had dated a superhero, but didn't actually say which hero!

So, i’m Wondering if Jane is going to be possessed by the Valkyrie, and will have to fight for control. And is she really going to get a flying horse?

Possessed? She IS the Valkyrie. She's what TV Tropes calls a Henshin Hero (which she also was as Thor), she transforms into her heroic form. There's no possession involved. And while she CAN summon a flying horse, she doesn't need to, because her All-Weapon can grant her wings.

Though, and this was true when she was Thor as well, when she is transformed she does lose something of herself. She commented on it in the captions in this issue, so I think it will be a plot point. It isn't possession, exactly, since she does still retain control, and I don't think it is Brunnhilde that is doing it any more than it was Thor possessing her. But taking up the role does influence her thoughts, how she speaks, how well she can fight, she does lose herself to the role somewhat. I suspect this will be a theme across all the Asgard books, with all the role switches going on, there are hints of this with how Thor has begun speaking, what he is like as King Thor in the future, and Loki as well, and we will likely see it with whoever takes over for Heimdall too. (top guesses are Volstagg and Sif) The role shapes the person who holds it. Maybe not completely, but it is an influence. Jane has it a bit easier than some in that she can at least put it aside temporarily and be fully herself when she's in Jane mode.

    *edit:

I mean, given that, it's not unreasonable to think there is some possession going on. But I do think, since we can also see it happening with her as Thor and the other Asgardians taking up new roles, that it is more of a role influencing the holder thing.
