Batman and the Commissioner have to earn each other's respect to work together, and sometimes they are against each other depending on circumstances. There is no such dynamic with Alfred, he's practically Bruce's dad.

I voted for Alfred, but it is very close.

Alfred knows all dimensions of who Batman is, that makes a difference.
Close as the Batman-Gordon relationship might be, it is missing some important elements.
But Jim Gordon is simply critical to Batman in many ways.

    It's back to a tie again (23 to 23).

I haven't voted yet and I'm not sure I can finally decide.
Alfred knows Bruce is Batman and was so involved in his day-to-day existence, but then again Gordon has been a major ally for so long and was there from day one (Detective Comics #27).

And yet, Batman was created well before Alfred was.

They both some of the most important non vigilantes we have in the history of comics.

I can’t count Lois since she is Superman’s partner but Jimmy Olsen is not very important since Clark is Superman more then full time.

I can’t name to many others.

Well, I believe Alfred is still dead, and what's Jim Gordon up to these days?

    I think he's like a P.I. now?

He was hired as a P.I./detective/manhunter and possible hitman at the start of Tynion's Joker comic.
"Has Sariel summoned you here, Azrael? Have you come to witness the miracle of your brethren arriving on Earth?"

"I WILL MIX THE ASHES OF YOUR BONES WITH SALT AND USE THEM TO ENSURE THE EARTH THE TEMPLARS TILLED NEVER BEARS FRUIT AGAIN!"

"*sigh* I hoped it was for the miracle."

Dan Watters' Azrael was incredible, a constant delight and perhaps too good for this world (but not the Forth). For the love of St. Dumas, DC, give us more!!!
