Sabretooth and Magneto

So I mainly watch adaptations and read only the occasional comic but is Sabes being paired with Mags in all the cartoons and movies because of of the 90s cartoon? What is their history like in the comics?

It seems to me that the moral ambiguity of Magneto and his cause is hurt by having an underling that is so incredibly violent. I know, I know, comics are comics and everyone has been everything, hero and villain and in-between. But my understanding is that Victor is still largely defined by being savage and murderous. He does not seem to go with Magneto's high-minded ideals for mutantkind. Also Magneto working with him compromises Magneto's own credibility in a way if you understand what I mean.

He was a solo villain up to 2002. Since the cartoons & films depicted him as a dumb snarling Brotherhood flunky, that's where the comics took him since it's the mainstream version now. It started with Austen & Claremont in 2003.

Currently he's Mystique's flunky and only had contact with Magneto if she did. Otherwise he was not personally affiliated with him outside of a brief stint in 2016 which has been rendered non-canon.

On a personal extra note, I miss the days he used to be Hopper.

Everyone loves Scar, but I think he's overrated. I liked Hopper, Shere Khan, and Hades as villains a lot more.

The decline started in X-Men Legends when you don't fight him solo but twice with Avalanche and then with Magneto and Mystique.

Sadly I'm not young anymore. I miss the days of my simple 90's childhood where I had not a wordy care. Ah well. Nothing good ever lasts...the comics prove that well enough. lol

If I recall correctly, Sabretooth and Magneto only team up in X-Men Evolution and Fox's X-Men 1.

Magneto would feel about him the same way he does the Marauders (who he used in Bunn's Magneto solo book). he's disposable muscle damned for his role in the mutant massacre but still usable. i could be wrong about this but i'm pretty sure that Sabretooth did fight the nazis (as an opportunistic murderer). maybe there would be some begrudging respect from Magneto on that. he likely wouldn't have a place in the mutant kingdom if Max had a say in it though. Vic is a former serial killer. the worst of the worst.

He worked for Magneto in X-Men TAS too and I figure both Evo and the movie took their lead from it.

I never saw Wolverine and the X-Men but I can't think of any other notable adaptations with Sabes outside of the Origins movie which obviously doesn't include Magneto at all.
