I found the latest episode a bit of a letdown:

    Pros
    spoilers:

-- Karl Urban as Butcher as usual is mesmerizing.
-- The scenes with him and his father (played by John Noble, aka Denethor from LOTR making this a bit of a reunion) is worth it to see this episode alone.
-- The opening scene is quite stark and very on the nose and on point, and a good lean in on the way comic book morality has disastrous consequences in the real world.
-- The bit where Hughie needing to cut up Lamplighter's hand with a wine bottle glass, and chopping up cartilage to sever it from the hand is dark comedy gorn gold in the spirit of Ennis in the comics, and also Hughie in the comics.
-- Queen Maeve's scenes in this episode were quite strong and good and Maeve is getting closer to her character in the comics.
    end of spoilers

    Cons
    spoilers:

-- The resolution to the Lamlighter story is a real letdown and copout. It doesn't move the characters arc or plot in any real way or form. It would have been better for Mallory to kill him because that would demonstrate the ruthlessness and cold dark path the Boys would be following down on.
-- Starlight getting outed, imprisoned and then broken free by Hughie is another padded distraction of a plot. I also didn't understand why Annie meeting her mother at the start of the episode was some violation of Vought control and so on. It didn't make sense.
-- I also found it odd that Hughie tries to bond with Lamplighter who murdered children, it just feels odd.
-- As for Black Noir, I honestly am confused what his purpose and role is in this show. I did like the Almond Joy gag and payoff though.
    end of spoilers

    spoilers:
Annie removed her tracking device last episode so Vought couldn't track her. Annie's mom asking Vought for vacation time allowed them to tail her to get to Annie. It was a massive **** up on her part.

The murder of Mallory grandchildren was accidental and he's been torturing himself over it. So I don't Huey trying to connect with him as odd as he believes him.

Okay that makes sense vis-a-vis Starlight.

I still don't get the second part though, doesn't feel right. I did like how the scene played with the sprinklers that came right after undercutting and mocking his gesture.

Dumb question, I know, but I'm a digitard: how do you make spoiler boxes to hide spoiler-y text?

Gotta question I wanna ask about today's episode.

Like how you quote, but instead of quote, you put spoil.

So [spoil] and then close it with one with a /, i.e. [/ s p o i l]. No spaces obviously. I kept it here to represent the markup.

    Thanks, mate!

Alright, so that last scene was brilliantly chaotic but it was hard for me to follow everything:

How many named characters died in that hearing room?

We also have to remember this is Huey. As angry and as cynical as he's become, he still tries to find the good in (most) people aiming towards redemption. Huey bonds well with Butcher after all, and he's seen his needless brutality first hand.

That's not to say that that makes totally him right, either. The show makes it very clear several times that he's optimistic and moralistic to a fault, that he's both to unreasonable ends, and that gets him into trouble, Lamplighter being the latest example. But Huey's also a guy who was raised to believe in that optimism because of superhero culture, and one thing the show likes to portray is the struggle between altruism and pragmatism, like the times Huey freezes when he's so stuck in his head.

That is, if you find Huey's conversations with Lamplighter wrong, in this case it's intended but also true to his character. There were so many times when I just yelled at the TV, "What the hell are you DOING?!" but it's also going with the flow of it because that really is something Huey would try to do.

I felt bad for Huey having to keep Lamp Lighter company. No one should have to keep someone company while they watch cuck porn.

Well, in all fairness only one of them was cuck porn. (Pretty sure Butcher would have blown up the tv rather than sit through that particular one)

The John Noble scene was awesome - he had one scene to convey "old, sick, dying man" as well as the "bully, ******* father" who made Butcher that man that he is. GREAT casting there.

Dunno why everyone is so bent out of shape about Hughie being nice to Lamplighter.

He only met Lamplighter after the fact, the man was remorseful for his actions and willing to testify and Hughie's job was basically to babysit. What else was he supposed to do in that situation?

    spoilers:
looks like just Langdon or whatever his name is (guy in the wheelchair) and Shockwave (A-Train's replacement). The rest were randos. Well, Congressman Richardson, the FIRST guy whose head exploded, was "named" but we haven't seen him before this ep like the other two I mentioned. I thought Homelander's assistant bit it but nope she made it.

    spoilers:
So the church leader says they are both back in after a few more details are handled. And the A trains replacement gets his head blown up. Betting the church has someone with the power to pop heads and they made a deal with Esponitos character. We take care of your legal issues and take shock wave off the table. You put our guys back in the 7. That's my guess. Also they been bringing up Lenny alot the past few episodes. Are they just giving us background on Butcher or is Lenny alive. Maybe even Black Noir(He seemed to have something personal with Butcher) or someone that escape that mental hoslital. The dad seems like the type who would have his son experimented on. Also he says Butcher left immediately, so it Lenny survived and ended up being a test subject Butcher wouldn't know

So no one wants to talk about how Eagle The Archer was tossed under the bus?
