Empire Strikes Back the film of my youth
Predator would have been a kick butt movie even without the Predator in it, awesome cast
Aliens kicked up the originals action up two notches
Planet of the Apes (the original 5 as a set)
Godzilla King of the Monsters (2019) I really liked this one
    Honorable Mention:
Avengers: Endgame I guess this is considered Sci-fi my not being sure of that is why it is an honorable mention

It's more sci-fi than Empire Strikes Back anyway.

    Men In Black

    Alien
    The Fifth Element
    Inception

...Excluding superhero, horror, fantasy, and Mad Max movies (futuristic but not technically sci-fi)

    2001
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original version, of course)
    Forbidden Planet
    This Island Earth
    Metropolis

There are a lot of others I could mention but I don't really consider them science fiction. Obviously, Star Wars for one.
    Power with Girl is better.

I consider most comic book movies more urban fantasy than sci fi so I'm excluding them with one obvious exception that will be obvious on my list but even though its from the comics its obviously sci fi. I know I'm probably forgetting something but these are the ones that first jump into my head. Serenity is easily my #1 and I say that as someone who hadn't even seen Firefly yet when I first saw Serenity. It was such a perfect movie and utterly accessible even to those like me who hadn't seen Firefly yet.

    Serenity
    Star Wars
    Guardians of the Galaxy
    Aliens
    Matrix

I know the superhero genre has a lot of Sci-Fi elements in it, but I consider it its own genre. I also don't count Star Wars and Doctor Who as pure Sci-Fi. They are Science-Fantasy, imo.

It's probably better to make it a list of speculative fiction movies if you want to avoid interpretation.

It's ok. I just wanted to see people's choices and what's more popular. It doesn't really matter if it's not exactly what I think.

I don't count Star Wars as they're more Science Fantasy than Sci-fi. Anyway:

-Star Trek Ii: The Wrath of Khan.
-The Terminator and Terminator 2 (I cannot decide between the two).
    -Blade Runner.
    -John Carpenter's The Thing.
-Alien and Aliens (again cannot decide between them).
