2001
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original version, of course)
Forbidden Planet
This Island Earth
Metropolis
There are a lot of others I could mention but I don't really consider them science fiction. Obviously, Star Wars for one.

Nobody loves "Contact." I think that movie was beautiful and profound.
“You're an interesting species. An interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you're not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we've found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.”
And the original "The Time Machine" is so fascinating to me. It captivates me completely.
Does anyone remember Enemy Mine?
I really love that movie.
Interstellar was great
Sphere
One movie where the astronaut loses contact to the base and dies in space at the end. I can't remember the name. Something with living rocks in it...
The force awakens
Is there any space travel movie that doesn't fudge the science? Even 2001 takes some shortcuts. One of the things that most movies get wrong is the artificial gravity on board spaceships. Other than science magic, they don't give a good explanation of how it works--centrifugal force would have other consequences. I was trying to think of a sci-fi movie that gets the science right and I couldn't come up with much.
I do! I like it a lot too. I totally forgot about it. Haven't seen it in so long. Dennis Quaid, right?
There is another old movie that I liked quite a bit about a man who kept shrinking until he got too small and had to fight insects! Watched it long ago, so don't remember everything, but it was good.
Going with
Planet of the Apes (original)
THX 1138
Interstellar
Silent Running
Star Wars (aka episode IV)
Blade Runner 2049
12 Monkeys
Incredible Shrinking Man

Every day is a gift, not a given right.
A Boy and His Dog
Planet of the Apes (original)
Ex Machina
Contact
Gattaca
I would have had Lathe of Heaven on the list (probably in place of Planet of the Apes), but since it was a television movie I decided, for the purposes of this list, that it was not eligible.

I saw most of the movies on TV--and now on the internet. Funny thing is I seriously considered putting BATTLESTAR GALATICA (1978) on my list, because my sister and I went to see that in the movie theatre in the summer of '78--as it was a legitimate movie release in Canada, ahead of airing on American TV in the fall.
