Question Favorite Version of Dr. Otto Octavius

So, which version of Otto do you like best? This is a tough choice for me but I have to go with the classic Dr. Ock version, although just barely as I also like his Superior Octopus and Superior Spider-Man forms.

Going against the grain here, but I really like Doc Ock's Superior Octopus look. It has Spider-Man's sleekness with the Doc Ock's arms. Very cool and modern looking.

But it BARELY beat out my number two pic, which was the regular Doc Ock look. Still, which Dr. Octopus look are you referring to? As a fan of the 90s, especially Erik Larsen's run, I've always been partial to Doc Ock's white suit and tie look:

    Keeping it classy, doc!

His Doc Ock form in general; green suit, white suit, whatever.

PS Superior Octopus is my second favorite Otto form, so good choice.

    The PS4 version.

Original if we're sticking to comics.

PS4 Ock really felt like he was channeling the best of Spectacular Ock, especially when he went really manic and Supervillain-y.

    Superior Spider-Man
    Spectacular Cartoon
    Ends of the Earth
    Ultimate
60's (Although I think I like him in the Romita-era more)

If the PS4 game had better boss fights I'd put him high up there
Superior Octopus was pretty fun, but I prefer him being Spider-Man over it, and if he's gonna be a villain then I'd want him to look more visually distinct from Peter like usual

Went with Superior Spider-Man though his original incarnation is great. The Spectacular Spider-Man version of Doc Ock is my favourite outside the comics.

One of the things that distinguished Dr. Octopus from other Spider-Man rogues in the L-D era was the fact that he didn't wear a mask. Otto was unashamed of showing the world his ugly face, and his portly figure. The leader of the Sinister Six didn't give a damn about how you thought he looked.

That entire thing gets lost when he's wearing that trashy costume that Slott and others cooked up to cover up his face or that he's now in a younger, handsome clone body.

Dr. Octopus' best and most decisive stories all come from the classic era (60s to early 90s) and aside from a brief revival in the JMS era where Classic Ock returns again, that version of the character is generally AWOL these days.

Never forget when Alfred voiced Otto in the 90's cartoon. I still read Doc Ock's voice in that vaguely German accent .

I agree. Bill Salyers sounds a lot like Peter MacNicol too. Whether he was intentionally channeling him or not, they have similar voices. Salyers feels like if you blended the Peter MacNicol and Alfred Molina versions together.

As for my favorite version, MacNicol definitely gets the cake, followed closely by Salyers, then probably a toss up between Molina or Zimbalist Jr from the 90s series. MacNicol is so much dun, and I love how over the top he is. He feels like the comic book version (pre. Superior) come to life.

Erik Larsen's Doctor Octopus was the definitive Doctor Octopus to me.
