First appearance = Flash Comics #1 (January 1940).
Rod Gaynor was one of the features in Flash Comics until 1944, with issue #55 (July 1944) marking his last appearance in that title.
In the beginning, he was written using a type of Spanish "dialect", something Roy Thomas addressed when the character appeared in All-Star Squadron #31 (March 1984):
