Superman 14 - new release - will be out tomorrow, but reviews are already appearing. I know that copies of the recalled edition ended up being sold on eBay, though I doubt anyone knows how many were actually diverted from retailers. (Supergirl #33 - recalled edition - has been selling for much more $ on eBay, probably because fewer copies are printed, fewest of all for the variant.) I wonder if anyone who bought the recalled editions is going to eventually discuss if it differs in any way from the corrected release, apart from the cover? That would resolve the speculations one way or another.

And, there were supposed to be a series of "broken logo" covers for about a dozen DC titles, for August, September and October, culminating in the hostile takeover acetate covers in November. The recalled cover of Superman #14 had one of those broken logos.

But now Superman #14's cover is the standard, non-broken logo cover.

So is one of the planned broken logo main covers for Superman never going to see the light of day? Or will there be an extra issue of Superman during September or October?

Meanwhile there has been no end to confusion regarding the variants for Supergirl #33 and #34. Originally both were solicited as different covers drawn by Derrick Chew. The recalled edition of #33 ended up being the one originally solicited for #34 (Supergirl holding up a bus); and previewsworld's variant cover for #33 (originally Supergirl and Krypto floating amongst birds) was similarly changed to that bus cover. But the previewsworld variant cover for #34 is still showing the originally solicited cover for #34, meaning that at the moment, previewsworld shows the same cover for the #33 and #34 variants.

We still don't know what variant will actually be released for #33 in a couple of weeks. Maybe previewsworld changed the cover for #33 simply because that's what the recalled edition looked like.

When one also considers that right after the recall, DC very briefly previewed a second nearly identical drawing for the Supergirl #33 recalled main cover but by a different artist - an alternative drawing that was never released, and one has to wonder why DC spent the money asking two artists to draw the same scene! - and both of these were were replaced quickly in their publicity by a completely different cover by Kevin Maguire, it seems that DC editorial has tied itself into knots with these covers!

If this post is hard to follow, well it probably should be - it's cover chaos for the Superman/Supergirl titles.

I should have expected it actually, that Bleeding Cool would put up some pages comparing the editions, and they have. So that resolves the "what," while Bleeding Cool also speculates about the politics of the "why," but it's just that - speculation.
