Default Is Mephisto the way Marvel kills the romance in their books?

I just read teh latest issue of Doc Strange where at the end Mephisto calls in his favor, which surprise surprise is another Hero's long time love, in this case Clea and it alsmost feels like teh same spiel he gave Peter in OMD, or at least in spirit. So i am wondering if that is how Marvel plans to make sure no hero gets the love of his life? I mean is Thing next? What about Reed and Sue? Or heck Jean and Scott? Maybe i'm overeacting but still what do you all think?

Mephisto is clearly getting practice for claiming the following loves:

    Billy and Teddy
    Jessica Jones and Luke Cage
Dr. Doom and his portrait of him sitting on the corpses of the Fantastic Four
    The X-Office and genocide plots
Franklin Richards and his own ego
    Jean and Scott
    Kitty and bad relationships
    Ultimate Wanda and Pietro

and finally, the strongest love story of them all, the Ultimate Universe and its cannibalism fetish

Man that was such a downer after I had hope for a Strange+Clea reunion. At least it wasn't a plot device like OMD. Surprised Mephisto's realm was the only one that escaped the Galactus crunch event.

Yeah, in December. I wonder how they'll handle Miles's storyline? It started in Champions, so that's the book that would've probably tied in - had it not been cancelled. So will his solo tie-in instead?

You know, I was reading something on social media the other day about the actual mythology (I think it's a german one?) from which Mephisto comes from, and there was this tale about how he felt attracted to male angels and how that got the best of him. I think there is a pretty interesting and possibly tragic backstory there to be borrowed from if Marvel wants to explain why he seems to be obsessed with destroying true love.

Maybe they would make a special champions issue just to tie in. The event affected the entire team after all, not just him

Yeah, their interactions throughout and Strange’s decision nearer to the end really made the ending very effective. Also, I doubt Mephisto’s realm was the only one, but he has been actively keeping tabs on Strange throughout the event so he’s the one to pull him in first

I just laughed when I finished reading it. Although, I expected a much more visceral reaction given how despised OMD is. Unlike in Peter's case, the fact Strange was the one who did the wiping (not Mephisto), means there is a built in way to reverse it in the future.

In saying that, the fact Stephen made that sacrifice shows incredible selflessness. It is a complete 180 degree turn from how he was handled under Aaron and, to a much lesser degree, by Cates, during their respective runs.

Mephisto is a joke villain at this point. Reversing OMD is important to get people to take him seriously.
