Default Who is the most Cowardly Character in Fiction?

There is the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz, yet I think there are plenty of other characters more cowardly than him. Any suggestions?

    Dr. Zachary Smith
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

    I love answers 1 and 2.

For #3, I think of Mastermind, followed by #4 Toad.

Rincewind the Wizard, the only times he's anything not-cowardly he's either tricked into it or he's literally allowed no alternative.

Eric O'Grady. but he probably had reason to be. he died following a moment of pointless bravery; bringing his story full circle to when he used his best friend as a human shield to survive.

LOLZ! I loved that he was such a tenacious survivor. After Armageddon it will be legions of giant mutated cockroaches & Dr. Smith fighting over the last box of cereal. I'll put my money on Dr. Smith.

IIRC, while reading a PREVIEWS catalog, someone described G1 Starscream as "everyone's favorite coward".

These guys are brave enough as a member of a gang, though Dr. Smith is a great contender.

I know nothing of Eric O'Grady though.

While "Most..." might be tough to narrow down, it seems like Chicken Little has to be in the running.

Had they been on the Jupiter 2, they ALL would have quickly dumped Dr. Smith out an open airlock.

I second Rincewind. For him it's not just a character trait, cowardice is a religion and a philosophy.

    Fear from inside out.

I would say courage the cowardly dog but he is brave saving his owner.

Scooby and shaggy have been brave at times also.

That jerk advisor from disneys Mulan who screams like a girl then hides at trouble but tells the captain to kill Mulan after she just saved his sorry hide.

Antoine from the sonic cartoon. Another cowardly jerk who starts trouble!

Donald Gennaro in Jurassic Park. (The lawyer who abandons children to the mercies of the T-Rex and just hides in a toilet until the T-Rex bumbles into him and eats him anyway.)

Rincewind would not only have done the same thing, he likely would have outrun the T-Rex to wind up rescuing the children from it via it chasing him in his cowardice
