    Cool Ultimate Marvel appreciation (2019)

Now that the Ultimate Marvel universe is about to return, let's make a long overdue appreciation thread. As a starting point, which was your favorite series?

Favorite series; Peter Parker-era Ultimate Spider-Man, no question.

First I've heard about it coming back, though.

Eh, it would look like we're just getting a few new elements brought in from the old Ultimate line not an actual relaunch of the Ultimate line.

Yes, comic books work that way. Things usually appear (or return) in someone else's comic, before taking the full screen. As Captain America himself, back in Avengers #4...

After all, if 2099 managed to come back, who says that Ultimate Marvel can't?

Ultimate Spider-Man (Peter Parker) was my favorite.

It's hard to beat the entirety of Ultimate Spider-Man. At times it reached astonishing heights of quality, and the low points were still pretty damn good.

The post Death of Spider-Man titles were fantastic as well. The Ultimate Comics X-Men was the best series they were featured in, and the Ultimate series was fairly good as well.
Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

Nobody said the line was returning, just the universe... which has actually been back since Spider-Men II. Miles Morales Spider-Man #10 is just the first place it's been used since then.

    Favorite:
    The Ultimates vol. 1 & 2

    Close second(s):
    Ultimate Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
    Ultimate Spider-Man (Miles Morales)

    Good for the most part:
    Ultimate X-Men (before Ultimatum)
    Ultimate Fantastic Four
    Ultimate Comics: Ultimates (Hickman's Run)

    No:
    Ultimate X-Men (after Ultimatum)
    New Ultimates & Ultimate Avengers
    All-New Ultimates
    Ultimate FF

There were some interesting reads here and there amongst the miniseries...

USM, of course. Those are some really peerless comics.

I used to really dig Ultimates 1 & 2 but I've soured on them over the past few years. Too much Mark Millar gleefully nihilistic edgelord stuff in them.

Hickman's work in the Ultimate Universe was really good, but they pulled the plug too early for me to confidently call it a favorite.

Personally I think they should resurrect the Ultimates line to host adaptation-ready, evergreen maxi- and mini-series for characters with potential that lack them. I've felt for a while that the MCU approaches their movies in a way that reminds me of the Ultimate Spider-Man approach; synthesizing decades of material into a single, cohesive product. Guardians of the Galaxy is a great example. Might not work for preserving 1610 continuity; there's a lot of characters that could use such series that were already adapted as part of the supporting cast for another character or property. (For example, the Ultimate Carol Danvers, Shang-Chi, Moon Knight...)

I think Donny Cates has said he'd love to be the architect of an Ultimate revival/reboot.

I had given up on the Ultimate Universe a little while before Marvel put it out of its misery but for a little while it was some of their best stuff. The Ultimates and Ulimate Spidey had the first and second spots in my eyes.

Also really enjoyed some of the minis/events like Ultimate Galactus Trilogy, Vision and Wolverine vs Hulk.
