Hard disagree. Read what I added in the edit of the post for more examples that I think are appropriate. Core aspects of a character can be built upon but should not be erased and rewritten.

It makes him even more villainous ironically. Someone who could have been one of earths greatest heroes becomes a world threat because they can't see their hypocrisy in becoming a
what he hates. Someone how equating humans to "the worst things any human has done". Hypocrisy, is one of the hallmarks of villainy imho.
but c'mon guys... can't we reboot things without defending every position?
My priority is enjoying and supporting stories of timeless heroism and conflict.
    Everything else is irrelevant.

What does that even mean? This is a thread talking about what we would do and I said what I would do. I’m here because I’m a fan of the X-Men. My first comic was an X-Men comic. People are harping on one thing I included in my theoretical reboot. Something a whole lot of people agree with but don’t say here because it’s not worth the attacks. What do you even assume I would be uncomfortable with?

Because original intent is garbage 50-60 years hence.

If you can’t with gay Bobby then halfrican Magneto, creole Gambit, and a grand Genoshan military conspiracy that includes Mojo, Sinister and Sabretooth are going to make your lungs collapse.

I promised Harpsikord an alternate world. Here we go!
    X-Men Chapter 2: The 1980s

X-Men Chapter 2, Event 1: The Funeral of Jean Grey
    Storm, Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler
Charles Xavier, Moira MacTaggert, Warren Worthington II, Betsy Braddock, Brian Braddock
Sunfire, Beast, Iceman, White Queen, Dazzler

Brian is revealed to be a partner in Moira’s research facility.
Brian refuses X-Men membership to be Britain’s premier superhero.
Xavier retires to join Moira’s research team in Scotland.
Betsy is revealed to be a spy for Xavier at the Hellfire Club.
Betsy refuses X-Men membership to pursue her espionage career.
Dazzler refuses X-Men membership to pursue her music career.
Iceman refuses X-Men membership to pursue a finance career.
Sunfire refuses X-Men membership to be Japan’s premier superhero.
Beast refuses X-Men membership to stay an Avenger.
White Queen refuses X-Men membership and laughs and laughs and laughs.
    Cyclops retires to Alaska.
    The school is closed.
Rogue shows up on moving day.
The X-Men move into Worthington Tower in downtown Manhattan.

    interlude: To Madripoor and Back
Sent by Xavier, Betsy tracks Sabretooth to Madripoor. She’s captured.
Mister Sinister uses Karma to build a psychic spy pipeline through Betsy, calling her the “Psylocke”.
Karma rebels, both women escape to Braddock Manor.
Karma replaces Alison Double and encourages Meggan’s transformation.

Elisabeth Braddock // SHIELD Psi-Cop codename: Sage // age range O5
None of the Braddock siblings are X-gene positive. While their powers seem like mutations, they are in fact Humans with an O-gene. Elisabeth’s O-gene mutation gives her the ability to indefinitely mimic psychic abilities. Betsy is invisible to mutant-tracking technologies.

Brian Braddock // Captain Britain // age range O5
None of the Braddock siblings are X-gene positive. While their powers seem like mutations, they are in fact Humans with an O-gene. Brian’s is dormant, but is theorized to be both psychic and immensely destructive. As the Captain Britain of Earth 616, he is tasked with the protection of lands surrounding the Braddock Lighthouse.

    Marie D'Ancanto // mutant name “Rogue” // age range O5 -5
The ongoing secret of her real name is boring, so I’d start with all her cards on the table. This Rogue replaces Kitty Pryde in several ways. Storm becomes her big sister. Nightcrawler becomes her big brother. Wolverine becomes her mentor in combat and meditation. Colossus becomes her boyfriend.

Xuan Kien Nhan // mutant name Karma // age range O5 -8
Altered to use actual Vietnamese names. Recently trafficked to Genoshan authorities from Vietnam, this “Shan” has no twin brother or younger twin siblings. She is a telepathic mutant who must physically touch her subject in order to access or manipulate their thoughts. Despite being unofficially adopted into the Braddock family, she longs to return to Madripoor.

X-Men Chapter 2, Event 2: Days of Future Past
Rogue replaces Kitty Pryde in the psychic time-travel.
Future-Rogue-inside-Present-Rogue reveals that Nightcrawler is Mystique’s son to Mystique.
Senator Kelly survives, but meets with Genoshan delegation after the confrontation.

Later that day, Trevor Fitzroy appears in the abandoned Xavier Institute.
One week later, Rachel Summers appears in the abandoned Xavier Institute.
Two weeks later, Ahab appears in the abandoned Xavier Institute.
Three weeks later, Lucas Bishop appears in the abandoned Xavier Institute.

In the dystopian future of DOFP, Fitzroy is the mutant son of a European dignitary. He steals the machine Rachel used to project Rogue’s mind into the past. The machine is American, so the Americans hire Ahab and his best Hound to apprehend him. Fitzroy is the child of a European dignitary, so the European mutant police officer Lucas Bishop is sent to get Trevor BEFORE Ahab and his Hound do.

All four meet in the ruins of Xavier’s. Fitzroy triggers the machine, which links to Rachel as its previous user. Rachel’s psychic powers explode out of Hound programming. Fitzroy tries to escape, but Rachel’s mind has already started melting the three men’s thoughts, so the teleport merges with Rachel’s memories, and all four are thrown into the “past”.

The X-Men encounter all four separately and ally with Rachel and Bishop to defeat Ahab and Fitzroy. Both villains escape. Bishop leaves Rachel with the X-Men. Rachel joins the X-Men as their youngest member.

    Trevor Fitzroy // age range O5 -5
His portals do not naturally travel through time, nor require a death. Obnoxious about his political immunity, Fitzroy flaunts his mutation and green hair among the less tolerant American states of the dystopian future. His criminal career is an expression of a similarly arrogant worldview. He doesn’t murder for the thrill, but also doesn’t value others’ lives.

    Rachel Summers // age range O5 -10
Rachel is a telekinetic telepath, but her unique mutation is related to the mutant x-gene. She can sense unique genetic structure and track it for miles. With a touch, she can unlock a dormant x-gene, amplify its potency, or even turn it off. She is also emotionally pyrokinetic; in times of heightened rage, her telekinesis can set fires.

Roderick Campbell // age range O5 +10 // codename: Ahab
Cyborg slaver from the future, the man who would be Ahab is merely a young man boy in present day Scotland. As a post-human cyborg, he is equipped with nano-Sentinel technology, a Nimrod A/I, and a variety of future weapons.

[redacted] Lucas [redacted] // age range O5 +5 // mutant name “[redacted]” // officer rank: Bishop
Mutant lawman from the future, the man who would be “Bishop” is merely a young boy in present day England. As a chimera mutant, he has primary, secondary, and tertiary mutations, as well as grafts from mutant donors. His most evident power is the absorption and redistribution of electromagnetic energy.

    MEANWHILE

Xavier has not retired. On Muir Island, he and Moira have built a superCerebro unit meant to combine the psychic talents of several mutants in order to repel and overwhelm Phoenix level threats. They also recruit young mutants to only do rescue missions. He & Moira approach Betsy Braddock to serve as house mother to these students, the New Mutants.

    Psychic Team // “The Demons”
Betsy Braddock // age range O5 // mutant name “Psylocke”
Xuan Kien Nhan // age range O5 -7 // mutant name “Karma”
Simon Inkose // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Dynamo”
Merged character of Shola Inkose and Psimon. Originally from Rwanda; has an older sister in the British psi-division. His telekinesis is anger based, and lacks fine motor control.
Danielle Eagle Spear // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Talisman”
Merged character of Danielle Moonstar and Elizabeth Twoyoungman. Altered to use actual Blackfoot surname. Her father is a merged Shaman/Forge, who’s largely absent from her life. Her power is specific: She can persuade minds less sophisticated and more grandiose than humans: animals, ghosts, demons, and gods.

    Rescue Team // “The Angels”
Marius St. Croix // age range O5 -7 // mutant name “Template”
Merged character of Everett Thomas and Marius St. Croix. Marius is brown-skinned Algerian from a multi-ethnic family who made their money in the trade of occult and magical items. His mutant powers can sense mutants in his proximity. This “wakes up” lamprey-like mouths in his palms that latch onto mutants, and allow them to mimic their powers.
Rahne Cassidy // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Wolfsbane”
Merged character of Rahne Sinclair and Theresa Cassidy. Instead of being fostered by her priest father, she’s the daughter of Banshee, who died in an encounter with the Brood. Her uncle fights to adopt her, but his criminal mutant status makes that difficult. Rahne is a lycanthrope, who has yet to develop other mutations.
Roberto DaCosta // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Sunspot”
Samuel Guthrie // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Cannonball”

The Psychic Team is fraught with disaster. Their combined might summon a variety of extraterrestrial and supernatural threats, including the Brood, the Demon Bear, Asgard, Chthon, and The Magus. Secretly, this is due to Marius St. Croix using stolen pages of the Darkhold to amplify or divert their efforts.

    X-Men Chapter 2, Event 3: Inferno
Instead of N’astirh’s corruption of Madelyne Pryor, this Inferno is Belasco’s invasion of the mortal realm. He starts by contacting the New Mutant Template to mimic his captive Magic’s mutant teleportation powers. Their stepping discs overlapped would subvert his banishment spell to create an in-between area on Earth. Worthington Tower is the epicenter for the transformation, and its residents transformed are into monstrous demons. The X-Men are temporarily transformed in demons.
    Worthington Tower is destroyed.
    Warren Worthington II goes missing.
Template is seemingly killed and his body goes missing.
Magic is free of Belasco and reunited with her brother Colossus.
Nightcrawler, Rogue, and Bird of Prey are injured terribly and sent to Muir Island to recover.
Psylocke is promoted to the X-Men, replacing Nightcrawler as second-in-command and Rachel as team psi.
    Magic joins the New Mutants.
Karma leaves the New Mutants and heads back to Madripoor.
Cyclops comes out of retirement to replace Psylocke as New Mutants mentor to the New Mutants.
The New Mutants now train as one combined team.

    The X-Men
Head to Japan to assist Sunfire with Genoshan runaway Longshot.
Longshot is a chimera mutant comprised of East Asian and Indian genetic material, his powers are varied and include baseline enhanced physiology, healing factor, traumatic teleportation, and experimental subtle reality manipulation. Longshot joins the team of Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, & Psylocke.

Gav Idra Bin Russell // age range O5 -5 // mutant name “Longshot”
Similar to the Ultimate universe version, this Longshot is a Genoshan refugee, eugenically bred to compete in coliseum entertainment. Rather than a blond Caucasian, this Longshot has dark features and a dark complexion with east Asian features. As a Genoshan chimera mutant, he has an enhanced physiology, healing factor, and an experimental reality warp accessible only through his instinct.

Together, they uncover the Indian Ocean international conspiracy to subjugate the mutant populations of the region, and transport them to Genosha for slave labor, entertainment, and unregulated genetic experiments.
The X-Men prevent a Master Mold from being built in the Australian Outback, and with the help of Gateway, set up a headquarters in the Master Mold ruins.
The X-Men prevent the Reavers from murdering Dazzler. Dazzler finally joins the X-Men.

    The New Mutants
Cyclops reopens the Xavier Institute with the help of the shapeshifting Phalanx alien called “Warlock”.
Warlock joins Cyclops, Talisman, Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, and Magic.

    MEANWHILE

Emma Frost sees the opportunity to start her own mutant school.

The White Queen asks Iceman and Beast to look into the disappearance of Warren Worthington II. If he’s compromised and revealed as a mutant, it could be traced back to her new school. The Hellfire Club’s mutant mercenary Domino is hired to assist.

Nina Thurman // age range O5 +7 // mutant name “Domino”
This Domino is much more like the Deadpool 2 version, being a black woman with unique vitiligo. Unlike her, she’s older, harder, and her mutant power is related to superhuman physiology and aim. She’s a mutant Ultimate Hawkeye with the demeanor of Sarah Connor from Terminator.

Warren is discovered with Selene, who’s restored his youth and his wings. (Warren Worthington II is O5 +15 years old, and had his wings surgically removed in his childhood.) Warren escapes Selene by giving her most of his finances. The four mutants establish X-Factor as New York City’s mutant-busters. They rescue Tabitha Smith, Jamie Madrox, Guido Carosella, Julio Esteban, and Dae Park from anti-mutant violence.

Tabitha Smith // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Boom Boom”
Dim, blond, and cute, Boom Boom is smart enough to attach herself to overcompensating men, but too dull to suspect they have their own emotional issues.

Jamie Madrox // age range O5 -5 // mutant name “Multiple Man”
Instead of being discovered on a midwestern farm, Jamie is a Morlock and a successful bank robber. He shares his earnings with the Morlock community.

Guido Carosella // age range O5
Tremendously built but not laden with deformities, this Guido is a Morlock who works in Manhattan as a bouncer and mafia heavy. He shares his earnings with the Morlock community.

Julio Esteban // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Rictor”
I never liked that Rictor’s real last name was a homonym for his mutant name. I moved his middle name to his surname, and let “Rictor” be its own thing.

Dae Park // age range O5 -10 // mutant name “Chance”
South Korean transman and gang brawler, Dae took the name Chance when he learned his mutant power could amplify the capabilities of his mutant allies. With X-Factor’s assistance, he learns to fuse with his subject, and amplify their physiology in new and dangerous ways.

    MEANWHILE

Nightcrawler, Rogue, and Rachel join Brian Braddock in foiling a network of Genoshan spies (Operation: Warwolf) on British soil. European nations are far more progressive toward mutant rights. They decide to work together and form Excalibur.

X-Men Chapter 2, Event 4: The Mutant Massacre of Manhattan
Sabretooth leads Genoshan U-Men super-soldiers, the Marauders. They proceed with a culling of the Morlocks. The job is to harvest useful mutations for Mister Sinister, and kill the rest. Longshot’s connections among the Genoshan resistance provide enough alert for the NYC based teams to assemble and repel the Marauders. The X-Men use Gateway to travel to New York.
Hundreds of Morlocks are killed. Hundreds more are harvested. Several are sent to Genosha for slavery.
    Warren Worthington II is killed.
    Several Hellions are killed.
The White Queen, Cyclops, Cannonball, Talisman, Rictor, Gudio, Wolfsbane, Beast, and Domino are shot.
Iceman, Dynamo, and Magik evacuate survivors.
Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Psylocke, Longshot, and Dazzler arrive late and hold the line.
The chimera mutant Spiral begins a mass teleport, but Psylocke psi-blasts her, sending everyone different places, alone and amnesiac.

    Excalibur
While the New York and Australia teams are fighting Genosha in the Morlock tunnels, Excalibur’s roster grows and deals with the Necrom situation.
Instead of seeking to draw the Phoenix out of Rachel, Necrom finds a young Chamber and forces him to rapidly mutate further in order to serve as a viable vessel for Phoenix power.
Rogue replaces Kitty in the Energy Matrix collapse as the warp allows her absorbing powers to merge the bodies of Excalibur.
Rachel uses her mutant gene-splicing gifts to soothe Chamber’s x-gene and unlock Brian’s. Brian Braddock’s long-dormant O-gene psychic talent is to utter destroy a subject’s mind.

Jon Sterling // age range O5 -15 // mutant name “Chamber”
Merged character of Jono Starsmore and Feron. Descended from the original Feron, Jon is only a child exhibiting earliest signs of his mutation when Necrom abducts him and magically forces him to mutate into psychic energy. The magic persists as Rachel halts the mutation. Chamber is left as a semi-psionic entity.. She coaches him, but he needs Xavier’s help.

Kalan Mekhaya // age range O5 // mutant name “Kylan”
Merged character of Colin McKay and Neal Shaara. A multi-mutant like Nightcrawler, Kalan is an Indian immigrant to Scotland, who his parents believe has hypertrichosis. When the truth of his early manifested x-gene is exposed, he runs away form home to be sent to E’rath by Widget. He returns to Earth and joins Excalibur, equipped with magical swords and several destructive sound-based powers.

    X-Men
Storm appears in New Orleans, where she befriends the Creole mutant Gambit.
Colossus appears in Westchester, New York.
Wolverine appears in the Australian Outback, where he’s nursed to health by stowaway Jubilee.
Dazzler appears in the Savage Land, where she’s found by an elderly Magneto.
Psylocke appears in Madripoor, where she’s exploited by the Hand.
Longshot appears in Genosha, where he’s subject to another round of Sinister’s experiments.

    New Mutants
Nearly everyone is in the Institute infirmary, cared for by Moira MacTaggert and Charles Xavier.
Rachel arrives with Chamber, where she discusses trauma, sacrifice, and heroism with Cyclops.
Dynamo is furious with Xavier’s ideology. He leaves with a few surviving Hellions to search for Magneto.
Magic leads the surviving kids to Limbo to investigate a mysterious haunting.
She, Rachel, and Chance manage to create a stepping disk to Limbo, they’re joined by Sunspot, Warlock, Boom Boom, and Warlock… the “Fallen Angels”.
Template is revealed to be alive, having been restored by Belasco and severely transformed into a demon/vampire. Template became an apprentice of Belasco and overthrew him, and burned down the power structures that ruled Limbo. Having mastered magic and his mutant powers, Template was able to haunt Illyana, having mimicked her powers. He seeks to return to Earth.
Warlock is severely damaged from the battle, heightening the stakes.
Just as Magic, Rachel, and Chance open a new portal home, Template ambushes them, latches onto Chance and uses their powers to mutate him into a diamond-hard female body, and teleports away.
Boom Boom, Sunspot, Multiple Man, and Warlock take the portal home, but Magic and Rachel stay behind in order to save Chance, Template, and restore order to Limbo.
Warlock’s recovery necessitates that he enters a cocoon state.
Talisman recovers and leaves to join her father in Alpha Flight.
Cyclops recovers and leaves to join his peers in X-Factor.
Guido and Multiple Man leave to join the relative safety of X-Factor.
Cannonball & Wolfsbane recover and join Sunspot, Rictor, and Boom Boom on a road trip adventure.

    X-Factor
Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, Guido, Jamie, and Domino find amnesiac Colossus bartending in Westchester.
Emma Frost remains in a coma.
Using her money, they set themselves up as the United State’s premier mutant advocacy group.
Jamie and Guido run the headquarters, Iceman manages Frost Holdings, Beast pursues legislative advocacy, and Cyclops leads Colossus and Domino in hotzone intervention operations.
    Colossus slowly regains his memory.

    X-Men
Karma, upon returning to Madripoor, reconnected with her girlfriend, Leyu Oyama. Oyama was the human half-sister of Sunfire. She volunteered to undergo extensive enhancements to become part of Clan Yashida's Cyburai. In addition to a U-Man healing factor graft, she was given retractable adamantium claws. Despite undergoing all of this to earn her father's favor, she was still cast out and unacknowledged. She joined the Hand, and persuaded Karma to do so as well.

Here's where Karma replaces Kwannon in the story of Psylocke. The Hand and Lady Deathstrike use the New Mutant connection between the two women to encourage Karma's mind to heal itself, but the operation goes awry and the women exchange identities. No Spiral, no Mojoverse, no surgery. Wolverine finds Psylocke in Madripoor, assumes it's Karma but learns it's Betsy. They all assume Karma is dead, and so is Betsy's body. They decide to go to Japan to tell Sunfire about his sister and the Hand.

Storm is found by Gambit, and the two begin a crime spree in New Orleans. They have light hearted adventures until they come upon the New Mutants, whose road trip ended at Bourbon Street.

The Genoshans, led by Mister Sinister and a mysterious woman, orchestrate a global capture of the X-Men. Spiral is in bad shape after the mass teleport debacle, but she was able to pinpoint the locations of the mutants who presented such a challenge to the Genoshan forces in the Morlock Tunnels.

The team trailing Wolverine apprehends him, Psylocke and Jubilee in Tokyo.
The team trailing Storm apprehends her, Gambit, Cannonball, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Rictor, and Boom Boom in New Orleans.
The team trailing Colossus apprehends him, Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Domino in New York City.
The team trailing Psylocke arrive in Madripoor, and are immediately killed by the Hand.
The team trailing Dazzler cross Antarctica, but are violently killed by a figure in a purple cape.

    X-Men Chapter 2, Event 5: eXtinction Agenda

Jamie Madrox suspects something is wrong when the X-Factor street team doesn't report in.
He and Guido investigate. It turns into a missing persons mystery.

The X-Men, X-Factor, and New Mutants arrive on Sinister Island, a small Genoshan island where mutants are transported, turned into slaves or have their mutant genes transplanted to human soldiers.
Storm, Gambit, Rictor, Boom Boom, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, and Cannonball are all turned into slaves.
Storm's brainwashing is hard to maintain
Wolverine, Psylocke, and Jubilee overwhelm their captors.
In captivity, Domino ALMOST admits her feelings for Cyclops.
Psylocke's appearance as Karma breaks the brainwashing on original New Mutants, her psychic knife completely destroys it.
After defeating Genoshan forces, Sinister releases his secret weapon: Madelyn Pryor.

It's revealed he cloned Jean Grey following the Phoenix event. Madelyn defeats the assembled teams because they held back.

Bishop sneaks into Xavier Institute and resuscitates White Queen, saying she's slept long enough.

Jamie Madrox manages to assemble Guido, Charles Xavier, Moira MacTaggert, Chamber, and the rest of Excalibur to rescue the other teams.
Charles equips Chamber with a portable Cerebro helmet.

Rogue, Gudio, and Captain Britain beat down the castle walls, while the rest sneak in. Meggan releases the X-mutants from captivity.
Chaos ensues. Sinister escapes with Spiral, leaving Madelyn to go down in flames.
Storm unleashes a hurricane on the island, which Iceman assists.
Nightcralwer, Kylun, Domino, Beast debate the merits of destroying Sinister's lab and research.
Moira and Charles tell Jamie dupes to start grabbing hands, and orders his X-Men to open their memories of Jean Grey.

Charles and Chamber force a psychic link with Psylocke, who manifests a Phoenix blade. She strikes Madelyn, and the entirety of the X-Men's thoughts flood into her mind.
Madelyn is defeated, but Storm asks what is her name?

"I'm the only me that ever was." Jean is back.

Domino leaves alone. She never had memories of Jean Grey and sees there's no room for her in the X-Men family.

    ****

Back at Xavier Institute, Xavier has decided to reorganize the X-Men into two strike forces.

    X-Men Blue
Cyclops, Wolverine, Psylocke, Rogue, Gambit, Beast

    X-Men Gold
Storm, Marvel, Iceman, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Kylun

    ****

As he seeks to reinstate the school, the New Mutants choose to go their own way.
Sunspot goes back to Brazil upon the death of his father.
Wolfsbane and Rictor decide to elope.
Cannonball and Boom Boom are approached by Bishop, who says he's looking for talent.
Bishop is joined by Catseye and Warpath from the Hellions, Domino from X-Factor, and a very strange looking Longshot.

Shatterstar is the "reboot" of Longshot. Given additional gene grafts, and a successful brainwash, Shatterstar is a toxic personality of Longshot with a rage-based reality warp. Shatterstar has no memories of his time with the X-Men, but he DOES know how to fight and win. In time, he'll switch back and forth.

    ****

With X-Factor effectively closed for business, Guido and Jamie are approached by Talisman and her father Shaman. They see the X-Factor brand as important with the potential to make positive changes for mutants. With Shaman's North American government links, and their experience with Alpha Flight, they ask the two ex-criminals to join their new venture. Talisman also reaches out to Wolfsbane, and Rictor comes along. Shaman asks Quicksilver to join as well, who takes a particular interest in Rictor, and his sham of a marriage.

    ****

Emma Frost, upon recovery, is given an invite to visit Braddock Manor. She's told she can rebuild her school there, and her first students are Chamber and Jubilee. Brian and Meggan move to the Lighthouse.

    Ongoing Team Books:
X-MEN - Mutant narrative steering book that is perhaps overly aware of their public perception and the weight of that falls heavily on these characters. They are intimidating and can be mutantkind's biggest weapons, but their story will be about relying on each other as the gravity of their celebrity takes its toll.

    Magneto
    Marvel Woman (Jean Grey)
    Storm
    Cyclops
    Apex (Monet St. Croix)
    Synch
    [Shen] Xorn

X-FORCE - This book lets the young mutants within get to choose their own path under the careful guidance of an experienced line-crosser.
    Citizen X (Roberto da Costa)
    Psykey (Kwannon)
    Anole
    Mercury
    Prodigy
    Wind Dancer
    Mondo

MARAUDERS - Very much more of a street-level team compared to the others. They're more blue collar to the X-Men team's white collar. Marrow's roots with the Morlocks and her relationships with Gambit and Emma play into her role heavily.
    Shadowcat
    Iceman
    Emma Frost
    Marrow
    Gambit
    Bishop

EXCALIBUR - A team based on exploration, mistrust, and accountability. Bright backdrops with wacky elements cut with genuine tension, especially between the M-Day clique and Wanda that hopefully is a nuanced redemption arc for them all.
    Captain Britain (Betsy Braddock)
    Nightcrawler
    Scarlet Witch
    Rictor
    Jubilee
    Moonstar

    Ongoing Solo Ensembles:
WOLVERINES - Special mission in Madripoor when the Hound Program and the Weapon X program link up and station themselves in the country. Long-term mystery that forces the clan to work together, along with new ally Norio (of the Raksha).
    Wolverine (Logan)
    X-23
    Norio
    Daken
    Honey Badger

ROGUE & THE BROTHERHOOD - Basically the Brotherhood have Moira X info, perhaps leading to the whereabouts of Moira and Professor X, but are only willing to share with Rogue.
    Rogue
    Destiny
    Mystique
    Pyro
    Pulse

    And then the supporting characters:
    KRAKOA SUPPORT
Members: Beast, Tourniquet (Cecilia Reyes), and Hijack

X-CORPS (largely appearing in X-Men) - International ambassadors and recruitment program, strengthening their ties to Wakanda and the Avengers.
Members: Manifold, Cannonball, Wolfsbane, Chamber, Armor, Bling!, and Hollow

HELLFIRE TRADING CO. (largely appearing in Marauders)
Members: The Cuckoos, Rockslide, Husk, and Sebastian Shaw; formerly Christian Frost

Then there's the supporting characters who will be mainly in non-X-Books
MERX FOR HIRE (Deadpool supporting characters)
    Shatterstar
    Boom Boom
    Blink
    Warpath
    Risque

MAGIK solo series mostly apart from the X-Universe

    Villains:

    I. MORLOCKS
II. SCAVENGERS - The X-Men's Wrecking Crew
III. ACOLYTES - Basically the anti-Wanda/mutant magic crew
    IV. MLF - Mutant anarchists

    V. THE UPSTARTS - Next stage in Hellfire politics, profiteering on their fellow mutant's misfortunes
VI. THE PURIFIERS - Self-hating mutants working with the humans, Laurie is really a reanimation of Persephone, who I forgot to include. Rest of the lineup will be new characters.
VII. BROTHERHOOD - Hoarders of prophecy and intel with an eye for power

VIII. HARBRINGERS - New age Marauders, assassins that literally feed on death and chaos
    IX. THE HORSEMEN
    X. THE ASCENDERS - Aligned with the Human/Machine alliance

I'd keep the villains as villains and establish each as their own threat and niche in the grander scheme of things.
Not a surprise that the best idea in this thread is also the one with the most thought and effort put into it. I wanna see more of this kind of stuff from fans when this kind of question gets asked, not "REEE go back to da 80!!!"

Not really a reboot idea, but: people are always talking about Claremont coming back to the X-line. People also tend to note that his writing on his older characters deliver... diminishing returns, shall we say.

So, bring Claremont in to write a Nextgen series, with a mandate of only using X-characters he's never written (at least not substantially) before.
