Simonson's Thor.
Strikeforce Morituri.
D.P. 7 and Psi-Force, from the New Universe.
Iron Man's book was awesome during this time period, with new specialized armors and stuff.
Alan Davis' run on Excalibur.
The Marvel Handbook was awesome, and I totally miss it.

Speaking honestly, I never had the chance to read the Claremont/Byrne run in the comic book format while it came out during the initial run. But, lucky enough, I did get the chance to read it in both the TPB/paperback format and the X-Men Classic run.

I always bring this series up when someone talks about the 80's. The Hercules: Prince of Power trilogy by Bob Layton. Hercules in the future running around space with his buddy Skyppi the Skrull and a Rigeleon Recorder getting in crazy adventures.

Many would say the 80's was the culmination of what Stan and Jack started in the 60's. I sort of agree from a continuous storytelling perspective. Hence we got some of the greatest ever creative runs on many of the seminal characters from both the Avengers and X-Men.

1983-1987 is probably when readers saw the collective rise of various series Stan and Jack helped start becoming more dramatically and emotionally compelling. I definitely think that's when they started finding more solid directions to go in and were consistent in showcasing them. Kudos to Frank Miller, Roger Stern, Dennis O'Neil, John Byrne, Tom DeFalco, Walt Simonson, Chris Claremont, Peter David, and Mark Gruenwald for their contributions in engaging storytelling.
