    Well, since that cover was for the January 1998 issue, it looks like it would be from 1997 or earlier. (Possibly the DC issues cover-dated December 1997?)

    Just confirming it was Dec. 1997. There have been a couple of covers from that month posted in this contest.

    I was just going to direct you to the site. It is pretty amazing when you use the "Newstand" feature and pull in all the comic covers for a date range.

    And for those who may not be aware of this, in Mike's Newsstand you can search by "Cover Date [month]" or "On Sale Date [month]. " Indispensable resource!

    I LOVE Mike's Newsstand. There's a lot of information about creators as well as the mapping of appearances for characters to find where they appeared previously or next. I hear it's very possible to get lost in the site for hours on end. Not that I'd know anything about that.
