Milligan, I don't know him but for Austen, I agree: tense discussion between Lorna Dane and Xavier.

    Stan Lee
    Roy Thomas
    Chris Claremont.
    That's about it for me.

Even though I didn’t like how Decimation and other such events near it basically spun the mutants with a depressing hopeless looming closely in the background (and thus makes me hope Hickman’s new status quo will very much refresh things), I did quite like New X-Men. Some might not be a fan of an emphasized focus on Dawson’s Creek-esque teenage drama, but I quite enjoyed the various members’ interesting powers, personalities, and interactions.

Um, but X-Men is an adjective, an "-eque" since Claremont.

In a sense, writing from an apocalypse is a posthumous publication.

Nothing has even happened yet, since then.

Or as Cypher once said one time back from the dead "What language am I?"

But he asked that without knowing right?

New X-Men: Academy X by Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir

    I echo Remender's Uncanny X-Force, but only through #19.
    Peter A David's X-Factor Investigation
Kieron Gillen's run, starting at the Fear Itself tie-in.
    Zeb Wells' New Mutants

Age of X by Mike Carey

    For me:

Grant Morrison: A bold new direction, who opened a lot of new stories for the X-men who was totally destroyed by Marvel. and there is a lot of Morrisson in the Hickman run
Rick Remender: His X-force and particularly the Dark Angel saga was fantastic.
Josh Whedon: His arc was an elegant way to return the X-men to their superheroes roots and at the same time try a new innovative direction.
I try to improve my english, feel free to correct me by DM if you see some mistakes !

Don't think anything can turn me off of a comic more than what you just described.
