The Legion of Super-heroes : (the ones that visited a young Clark Kent) It turns out that they were not inspired by Superman, rather that he became the worst super-villain in the universe, and the Legion decided that the best way to end his threat (after multiple time travel attempts), was to tell him that he grew up to be a great hero, so that he would actually become a hero rather than an intergalactic dictator.

oh, that's a clever twist on the Superman character! would you play with him weighing authoritarianism internally? kinda hint at an inherent villainy that he has to overcome.

Superman (with Maxima) dethrone Mongul and becomes the ruler of Warworld, which he uses in a massive war against Apocalypse. He has some victories, but starts to lose, so he gets Zod to help him. Zod's military genius turns the tide of the war, but Zod betrays Superman and dethrones him as ruler of Warworld. Superman loses the war against Apocalypse. Superman and Maxima leave Warworld and hunt Brainiac throughout the universe.

    The Sons of Olympus

As the Amazons attempt to reintegrate into the modern world they are met with a number of hurdles. The biggest one being the Sons of Olympus, the heroes of past come to continue their feud with the Amazons. Using their own fame and the world's mistrust of the Amazons due to false information, the Sons of Olympus seek to establish themselves as the only heroes and gods worshiped by humans.

Heracles - The son of Zeus and leader of the Sons. A millenia ago he invaded Old Themyscira and attempted to claim Hippolyta as his bride but was fended off. Heracles views the Amazons as abominations and has a particular disdain for the Amazon general Philippus.

Theseus - The son of Poseidon and Heracles' cousin. He is jealous of Heracles.

Achilles - The hero of the Trojan War. Achilles is the most respectful towards the Amazons of the Sons of Olympus and views them as a worthy challenge.

Ajax the Lesser - Another veteran of the Trojan War, Ajax resented his namesake's fame while he languished in obscurity. He sides with Heracles seeing it as a chance to be more famous.

Jason - An old friend of Hera0cles who helped him in the original invasion of Old Themyscira.

Well, I don't believe in "inherent villainy" but more the "inherent self-interest" we all have that's modulated by society and internalized morality - with empathy usually being the key factor. I know it's been done a bunch of times with Superman already, but I suppose this would be more about the Legion making a "so crazy it might work" last-ditch attempt to save the galaxy. If I really wanted to be twisty, it would be their lies and betrayal that would turn him to villainy, .... but then that feels hackneyed... so, nevermind.

A tweak on that. Someone proposes before they time travel back to meet Superboy that instead of fanboyishly recruiting someone who is *already* a legendary Earth hero, they pick someone to recruit whose joining a super-hero team as a teen might actually improve things for the better.

And that's how they end up going way, WAY back in time to New Genesis, and recruit a stone-skinned teenager with great strength and red eyebeams called Kid Omega, who, in another universe, grows up to be Darkseid... (Naturally, things go terribly awry. The evolution of this young New God into Darkseid is a closed loop in time, and inevitable (with New Genesis and Apokalips being *the same world* at different ends of the continuum of his existence!), and in this universe, without the Legion's inspiration to help channel his sense of alienation growing up on Earth, Superman is not around to face this eventual menace.)

Hawkman suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID) and the different aspects of his continuity only exist in his mind. This condition originated from brain damage suffered when Khufu, Chay-Ara and Hath-Set were first reincarnated as Carter Hall, Shiera Saunders and Anton Hastor. During his DID episodes, Hawkman was actually transported to the planet Thanagar via zeta beam as Thanagarian scientists studied him to determine the effects of Nth Metal on humans.

A backup "Trinity" for every member of the Trinity

So similar to how when Superman was mortally wounded in Action Comics 806-808 with Cir-El, Natasha Irons and Traci 13 there'd be a similar in case of emergency trio for each member that plays on magic (Traci 13), technology (Natasha Irons) and other worldly strength (Supergirl/Cir-El) somehow

Maybe with the implication of similar ideas for other members of the League too with heroes having part time mentees/interns who are a bit more disconnected than the usual sidekick as the JLA's essentially emergency plans.

As a temporary bit. Give someone like The Question temporary Post-Monitions IE he sees flashes of time OF THE PAST and has to use his skills to uncover secrets he wouldn't be able to otherwise without this initial lead.

Retcognition is the word you're looking for. Nice idea by the way. I remembered a character who had the ability to read the aura of objects and gain a glimpse of the recent past. On "Heroes" they called it clairsentience.

Postcognition, psychometry and 'object reading' or sensitivity to psychic impressions are all terms I've seen, at various times. Marvel has a few characters with the power, Longshot and Snowbird, to name two, but the only DC character I can think of right off with that power is Tuatara, of the Global Guardian, whose 'third eye' allows him to 'see into the fourth dimension, which is time' the same way a normal persons two eyes allow them to see into three dimensions. (Which is whack, but totally cool for a character introduced in the Super Friends comic!)

Ooh, someone in the Bat-family with an honest-to-gosh super-power? Cool! (And one so amazingly useful to an investigative or detective hero type, to boot!)

    Anywho, new idea;

Deathstroke is mergered with Deadshot, and is an assassin (who also takes legal jobs under another alias, as a bounty hunter, it's the thrill of the hunt he loves, not murder, specifically). He has bionic eyes, having lost one years ago, and willingly surrendered the other *because it was a weakness*.

His son, Jericho, kept possessing him, you see, and without organic eyes, he's now immune to his son's power...

Super-Duper. Make this thing Professor Ivo's first "failed" experiment before creating AMAZO. And it comes back for revenge against Ivo and Amazo.

That's certainly no crazier than anything else that's been tried since Zero Hour.

Captain Atom. Keep his post-Crisis origin, but give him an "accident" that returns his powers to something more along the lines of Ditko's original concept, including the idea that his powers decrease with use and have to recharge.

(The Hero Formerly Known As) Captain Marvel. His powers are not derived from a Pantheon. That's merely what The Ancient Wizard told him to give Billy a mental model a child could easily grasp, around which the mystic power bequeathed him is shaped.

Manhunter. A small group of the androids survived under the protection of The Controllers. Mirroring The Green Lanterns, they have created a corps across many worlds with the goal of thwarting those who threaten interplanetary peace and order. The individual Manhunter agents are trained to optimize their physical and psionic potential, the latter being aided by their armor and extendable batons (think a jedi with a staff rather than a light saber). Most think him just another costumed crimefighter, cribbing on Paul Kirk's old act, but his real mission is to watch the Justice League, and he occasionally sabotages the JL in cases that his masters believe might have interplanetary consequences.
