An awful lot of of the content is already coming from the United States. Hard to envision a scenario where this law changes that.

This is not about content creation, it's about protectionism of a dying (and increasingly niche) market.

I dunno about anyone else, but I pay about $150 a month through various streaming services, and I don't have cable or dish. I certainly do not have an expectation of free entertainment. The closest I've ever gotten to that is a free concert at the city park.

One question I'd want to work out is what percentage of people are signing up for new movies? Disney+ will have original, classic and television content. My guess is that, in France, the people who decide not to sign up just because they can't get Endgame or Lion King or Dark Phoenix seems smaller than box office and video revenue.

Do you want piracy? Because this is how you push people into piracy.

How fast are pirated tv shows and movies that have been translated to French reach France these days?

Most of the ripped from iTunes versions of pirated shows have foreign subtitles baked into them.

Why would they care. Even if half the people pirate, if you can push the other half to the outlets you want to support and protect your own National industry, why wouldn’t you? The piracy effects the streaming service from another country more than your own businesses.

People work hard to make the tv, music, and movies that we enjoy, should they not be compensated for it. I'm not talking about the actor or musician who makes millions each year but how about the stage hands, assistants, and the people in the supply chain distribution areas who are middle class and need jobs too. If countries create laws to try to protect their citizens then that's their right and that's what they should be doing because at the end of the day as Americans we would want our politicians to do the same for us (china trade war ring a bell?).

The only entertainment market bigger than ours potentially is China. How is the American mindset that we want free entertainment? We buy movie tickets, we go to concerts and sporting events, we have a massive video game industry and support many streaming models for music. That's a silly generic assertion not based on reality
