Kurt Warner is in the Hall of Fame, Eli Manning will also be there at some point.
Dan Fouts is there also, Philip Rivers will join him. Yet Sam Humphries is the only SD/LA Chargers QB to lead the team to a Super Bowl.

If losing to the 49ers got you into the HoF, Boomer Esiason would be in. Actually Boomer should be considered, he was an MVP, Pro Bowler and had great stats. If he had an SB win, he would be in.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
Well this post says it all about Humphries. The guy didn't lose them games, and he played a bit above his pay grade in the playoffs that year, but there is not one Chargers fan who looks back fondly on the Humphries/Ross years. Their Super Bowl appearance was overshadowed by a very embarrassing loss. Bobby Beathard was the real driver for those years. Humphries would later retire due to complications from the many concussions he received.
And yes, Junior was in his prime. And he posted an amazing playoff season that year. Then he also retired soon after due to concussions and later committed suicide because of their effects on his brain.
That team is a bit of a cautionary tale regarding the NFL during those years.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.
Predictions for Week 12
Texans over Colts- Texans get ahead of the Colts in the AFC South and will stay there
Falcons over Buccaneers- Falcons win their third in a row
Bills over Broncos- Bills should win this one at home
Bears over Giants- Bears will win regardless of who plays QB
Steelers over Bengals- Steelers will keep the Bengals perfect
Browns over Dolphins- Browns are surging
Saints over Panthers- The Saints win the NFC South here
Raiders over Jets- a potential trap game, but the Raiders should survive
Lions over Redskins- I can't pick the Redskins in anything
Jaguars over Titans- The Jags with Nick Foles are better than the Titans. Both teams end up 5-6.
Patriots over Cowboys- New England stomps Dallas at Foxboro
Packers over 49ers- 49ers lose at home, and fall into a three-way tie with the Saints and Packers on top of the NFC at 9-2
Eagles over Seahawks- The Eagles need this game more, and have responded when they needed to win
Rams over Ravens- The Rams need this game more, and the Ravens are due for a let down.
Rivers won't get in. Nobody who hasn't had at least an All Pro or a SB got in. Rivers has never had either nor an MVP.
People like to bring up Dan Fouts in relation to Rivers candidacy. Fouts had 4 All Pro's from 79-85. He also has an OPOY and PFWA MVP. In the late 70's and early 80's he was effectively a top QB during that time frame. That's light years difference from Rivers.
Rivers has no real path to get in. He would be an anomaly.
Fouts and Warner had moments every NFL fan remembers.
Rivers throws game-ending picks in big games and made the top 10 passing list (and will be soon off it).
I bet I will only remember him when they show a highlight reel of some HoF defender intercepting him.

Those years told a story of Bobby Beathard trying to stock a team with more draft picks and trading away 1st rd draft picks to get more 2nd rd picks each year. While this worked in the 1980's with Washington due to teams not being as good as full scouting ; by 1990's computers had taken over fully scouting wise and Beathard's moves started to not pay off.
In fact this was the players Beathard passed on from 1991-1997....
1991 : Traded a 1992 1st rd pick for guard Eric Moten. Who was a starter for 4 seasons from 1991-1996. Only was in NFL 6 seasons.
Players Beathard could have drafted in 1992 : Troy Vincent , Bob Whitfield , Leon Searcy , Marco Coleman , and Dale Carter. All of these players were Pro Bowl players and unlike Moten actually went to Pro Bowls. Moten had a low career and was out of league after 6 seasons.
1993 : Traded their 1st rd pick in 1994 for a 2nd and Natrone Means (RB). Means had a decent NFL career and went to a Pro Bowl. He's also on the 50th Anniversary team of Chargers.
Players Beathard could have had ? : Todd Stuessie , Tim Bowens .
1995 : Unlike in years past Beathard didn't just trade a future 1st rd pick for a 2nd that draft. No he'd trade down and get more picks and trade that 1996 1st rd pick away. Instead he traded out of the 1st rd to get more 2nd and 3rd picks . In fact he used these draft picks to get Terrance Shaw (CB) , Terrell Fletcher (RB) and Jimmy Oliver (WR). Oliver never made the team , Fletcher was basically a 3rd down receiving back to replace Metcalf for a number of years and Shaw would bounce to teams til 2000's where he won a Super Bowl in 2001 with New England. None of the players ever went to a Pro Bowl.
Players Beathard could have had in 1996 : Jeff Hartings , Jermaine Mayberry , Eric Moulds , Ray Lewis , Jerome Woods , Tony Brackens , and Lawyer Milroy . Almost all these players became Pro Bowl stars on their teams. Ray Lewis became a Hall of Fame LB.
1996 : Beathard traded a 1st rd pick for Bryan Still (wr) in 2nd rd. Still is considered one of the worst draft picks Beathard made and would be if not for Ryan Leaf. He had a 4 year carer in SD but had only one season of average production. In 4 seasons Still had 83 Receptions for 1,181 yards and 2 Tds.
Players Beathard could have had : Tarik Glenn , Trevor Pryce and Tiki Barber.

Eli, Rivers, & Big Ben are the same QB class, right? Same with Schaub?

Yeah he came out of that same draft class. While those guys were the highly touted QB's of that class , Schaub would weirdly have a better long running career than those after the 3 stars and himself (in the 3rd rd) .
1- JP Losman - 6,200+ career passing yards with 33 TD's and 34 Ints.
4 - Luke McCown - 2,300 career passing yards 9 TDs 15 Ints
5 - Craig Krenzel - 700+ career passing yards 3 TDs 6 Ints
6 - Andy Hall - 0 career passing yards 0 TD's and 0 ints.
6 - Josh Harris - 0 Career passing yards 0 Td's and 0 Ints.
6 - Jim Sorgi - 800+ Career passing yards 6 TD's and 1 Int.
6 - Jeff Smoker - 0 Career Passing yards 0 TDs and 0 Ints
7 - John Navarre -340+ career Passing yards 2 TDs and 5 Ints.
7 - Cody Pickett - 190+ Career Passing yards 0 TD's and 4 Ints.
7 - Casey Bramlet - 0 Career Passing Yards 0 Td's and 0 Ints
7 - Matt Mauck - 130 Career Passing Yards 0 TD's and 1 Int.
7 - B.J Symons - 0 Career Passing Yards 0 Td's and 0 Ints
7 - Bradlee Van Pelt - 7 Career Passing yards 0 TDs and 0 Ints
Its wild but ...Matt Schaub was the 4th Best QB to come out of the 2004 NFL Draft given what we see.

And they are all going down in the same year, it seems.
Crazy.
