The history of the Dolphins decisions throughout the 2000's and 2010's is pathetic.

Culpepper over Brees as you mention (one of the reasons I hate Nick Saban).

Every player Nick Saban drafted being either a complete bust or a bust relative to their position (Ronnie Brown was a decent RB but not a #2 overall back).

Trading a 2nd rd pick to the Eagles for AJ Feeley.

Making no effort to resign Wes Welker who went on to dominate with the Patriots.

Picking Jake Long with the #1 overall pick when they could have drafted Matt Ryan. Long was great for about 5 years before injuries forced him out of the NFL. Meanwhile Ryan is already #10 all time in passing yards.

2nd rd pick on Pat White as a possible QB of the future. I'm not sure he even actually ever played a down.

They're going to want to get Chase Young, because not only does he look like the best player in college football... he's not gonna get hated on because he's an Ohio State product that will play in Cincy.

Ideally, though, Cincinnatti almost will want to try and trade down to #2 or #3 to try and get him, and let teams picking ahead of them snag QBs. Miami is the only team that is definitely going QB. But the Giants are at #2 as things stand right now. If the Bengals try to help the Dolphins jump up to #1 and slide down to #3... the Giants are gonna snag Chase Young, most likely.

    Worst analysis ever.

Joe Burrow is from Ohio. He even attended Ohio State before transferring because he wasn't going to get a shot at starting.

The Bungles are clearly planning to move on from Dalton and Burrow is the no brainer #1 overall pick to the Bengals where he will be embraced as both the hopeful QB saviour and Ohio native.

The only drama in the draft starts after the Bungles take Burrow. Is Tua going to declare and will he be healthy enough he won't scare off teams. If the Dolphins have the #2 pick they take him without reservation since they can roll with Rosen and Fitzpatrick next year (both are under contract) if Tua needs extra time to heal.

If the Giants or Redskins have the #2 pick then it gets interesting. Neither will be drafting a QB so will some team move up for Tua or will they stay put and draft Chase Young. Dolphins are obviously a candidate to move up for Tua. Jaguars as well (they have two #1 picks) unless they are really sold on Minshew as the future. Chargers could also try to move up since Rivers is a free agent and may either retire or not be re-signed.

Only way the Bengals move down is if the Dolphins offer them all three of their 1st rd picks and that won't happen.

The new draft pattern is, if you can move the top pick for a slew of picks through the draft AND still get the guy you want, you do it. That's how the 49ers rebuilt when the Bears took Trubisky so fast. And how the Rams rebuilt so fast when Washington gave up the farm for RGIII.

As Jimmy Johnson taught us , its about the draft . Johnson was someone who really showed the value in drafting and moving up and down. Jimmy became a master of it as we saw him rebuild the Cowboys with draft picks and then rebuilt Miami's defense with guys like Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor who both started for over a decade.

Getting more draft picks is always the smart thing if you can get the player you want. If Burrow is the guy , then lets examine who is in the draft that needs QB's.

In the projected Top #10 order..

    https://broncoswire.usatoday.com/201...r-draft-picks/

Now the big teams to watch draft wise for QB's is Bengals , Dolphins , Chargers and Broncos. The Broncos may stick by Lock another season if they can't get a QB in 1st rd. But the big QB's in this draft projected wise in 1st rd are ...

    https://walterfootball.com/draft2020QB.php

    Projected 1st rd QB's.

    Joe Burrow
    Justin Herbert
    Tagovailoa
    Jake Fromm
    Jacob Eason

These QB's are the projected 1st rd QB's with Fromm and Eason as early 2nd rd possible. Miami could see the following teams and trade down themselves to get some draft picks and still pick up Herbert or Tagivailoa before the Chargers and Broncos pick. Or maybe we see Miami trade up to grab one of the guys worried that another team will shop plenty of draft picks to Bengals who may think , well we can trade down and let Burrow go and still get a 1st rd QB and more draft ammo.

There are a lot of possibilities. But the Bengals trading to Giants #3 and drafting a QB there isn't out of realm of reality if they can get a couple extra picks.

My Eagles and their inconsistent defense is giving me heartburn. Just a scant few weeks ago, they held the World Champion Patriots and the always dangerous Russell Wilson and the Seahawks to a grand total of 34 points (both losses because the offense was MIA), but on Sunday, they let the three win, bottom feeding Deadskins run roughshod to the tune of 27 points, needing late game heroics from Carson Wentz and practice squad receiver Greg Ward to save the day. After watching Dallas pummel the Rams into paste and probably out of the playoffs in the late game, I don't feel at all good about our chances going into Sunday's showdown with the Cowboys that could determine the winner of NFC Least.

There is just no way the Bengles trade down from #1 assuming they want Burrow and its pretty apparent they will draft a QB with that pick. Too much risk of missing out on Burrow.

Hypothetically lets say they somehow get the Giants or Redskins to move up for Chase Young. This only makes sense if that team is drafting #3 or later because if they are drafting #2 they are getting Young anyway. So the Bungles trade down to #3. That leaves whoever is at #2 to draft Burrow or trade with a team that wants Burrow. Dolphins and Jags both have multiple #1 picks. Chargers will be drafting top 10 and could package picks to move up.

The Eagles struggled against the Giants and Redskins because they are saving their best stuff for Dallas. They will beat the Cowboys.

Eagles will beat the Cowboys this week. Neither team is a real boy this year, and they should do the honorable thing and forfeith their spot to some team more deserving! But I feel that the Blue Fairy will be on the birds side this week.

Right now its only December. The NFL Draft is in May . A lot of things change as the draft gets closer . Hell the draft order itself isn't set in stone yet because there are 2 games left for the season.

Players can go up (and that is the case with a lot of QB's the last few seasons) and some go down. A few cases to look back at....

    - Mitchell Trubisky and Pat Mahomes. If you watch some Steve Maricucci white board towards that draft , Watson seemed like a 1st rd QB along with Trubisky late in 1st. But things changes as Trubisky started to gain more attention. Pat Mahomes then was viewed as a 2nd rd QB but as attention rose on those 2 , so did it for Mahomes.

    - Baker Mayfield at one point in 2018 was viewed as a late 1st/early 2nd rd QB. Not many felt Mayfield would go at top of draft and teams ripped Browns who decided to draft him. The big one many considered a 1st rd can't miss QB was Sam Darnold. Who slipped to the Jets.

    - Years earlier this played out with Aaron Rodgers as we saw.

But the general point is , right now Burrow looks like the choice. But with free agency , trades and more ahead a lot can change by May. Plus more players scouted etc. So a lot can change by 2020. The idea a team could trade down if safe enough to get Burrow to get a few more picks isn't wrong here. It could play out as could a million other situations.

Most of what your saying though as to opinions, like those on Mayfield, occurred before the college season. Barring Burrow getting a serious injury in the college football playoffs teams already know everything they truly need to know about him. Great character guy, great at making good decisions, average arm strength, great leader. Free agency could change things but really who is out there that the Bengals would want over Burrow. The Bengals are not a team like Chicago that is just a decent QB away from being a superbowl contender, they are in rebuild mode. So it makes no sense to out out and take a flyer on Cam Newton, the likely best QB to be available, whereas Chicago or the Chargers could take a chance on him.

The best free agent QB that will actually be available (Drew Brees and Tom Brady are technically going to be free agents but they will almost certainly be resigned by their own teams assuming they don't retire) is Andy Dalton who the Bengals obviously are moving on from. Cam Newton is the best available by trade but he comes with serious questions about his health and future. Phillip Rivers has fallen off a cliff. Marcus Mariota sucks. Derek Carr might be available by trade for the right offer but he makes more sense for a team like Chicago that thinks they are just a QB away from contending.

If for some reason the Bengals don't pick Burrow at #1 or they trade down you absolutely will see a trade with whoever picks #2 unless its the Dolphins will sprint to the podium for Burrow. The Giants and Redskins, the leaders for the #2 pick, both have rookie QB's and lots of holes to fill so they'll both gladly accumulate picks.

A stud Defensive End is great but you can't build a team or defense around them. Look at the wasted JJ Watt (best defensive end of the 2010's) years where the Texans were mediocre because they were so weak everywhere else.

Looks like the league has given Tom Brady motivation to go on the warpath after he was left off the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2008 as the QB’s for the AFC will be Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. In fact, the Pats will only have three representatives, none on offense.

Brady was injured in 2008 so he didn't start. What is amazing is Brady likely would be way ahead of Drew Brees in TD passes had he not missed that season. He would have broken Manning's record last season or earlier this year.

Also here is a unique record Brady has coming. If he gets sacked 1 more time he will have 500 career sacks. He will join 2 Hall of Famers in that with Brett Farve and John Elway. Also Ben Rothlisberger is on the list ahead of Brady.

CBS posted its 1st mock 2020 Draft. They weirdly have the Dolphins deciding to wait til the middle/end of the 1st rd to select a QB in this one.
