    Default Best Spider-Man stories 2010-2019

As this decade is nearly up, why don't we think on the best Spider-Man stories from it? Mine:

    1. The Superior Foes of Spider-Man.
    2. Finale. Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #310.
    3. Big Time. TASM #648-651.
    4. Doctor Octopus is Dead. Avenging Spider-Man #15.
    5. Superior Spider-Man/Wolverine and the X-Men. Avenging Spider-Man #16.
    6. Revenge of the Spider-Slayer. TASM #652-654.
    7. No One Dies. TASM #655-656.
    8. My Dinner With Jonah. PP: TSSM #6.
    9. Death of Spider-Man. USM #156-160.
    10. Dying Wish. TASM #698-700.

    (In no order):
    -- Death Of Spider-Man (Bendis-Bagley)
    -- Spider-Men (Bendis-Pichelli)
-- Spidey Sunday Spectacular (Stan Lee - Marcos Martin)
    -- Spider-Gwen (Latour-Rodriquez) [Opening Arc]
    -- Spider-Man Life Story (Zdarsky-Bagley)
    -- Renew Your Vows #19 (Houser/Koblish)
    -- The Superior Foes of Spider-Man (Spencer/Leiber)
-- My Dinner with Jonah (Zdarsky/Walsh)
    -- "Finale" (Zdarsky)
-- We Called Him 'Ben' (Brand Meltzer/Julian Todino-Tedesco)

The 2010s is the first decade where the most exciting and interesting Spider-Man stuff have come from AU rather than 616. Not that it wasn't the case in the '90s where Spider-Girl would have fitted with one of the best 90s Spidey stuff, or the 2000s where USM would feature there. But this decade it's almost overwhelming. I could only think of three Spider-Man 616 stuff I wholeheartedly loved this decade.

Thank you for replying. Can't believe I forgot Spider-Gwen, her debut in EOSV #2 should have made mine. I'll have to amend my list.

Renew Your Vows #19, that's the holiday issue, right? That was my favourite issue of Vol. 2.

Spidey Sunday Spectacular is the only one from your list I haven't read,

    Random order

Big Time/Revenge of the The Spider-Slayers/No One Dies
(I Consider them a whole saga and the best thing Dan Slott ever did)

Superior (I didn't like the concept at first, and the execution was worse, but the story grew on me, the Superior Venom and superior Carnage arcs were amazing)

Spider-Man/Deadpool 1/6 (this should have been a 6 parts mini. The rest kinda suck.)

Renew your Vows Vol 1 (didn't like vol 2 that much)

Superior Foes of Spider-Man (Nick Spencer is the best Spider-Man writer since DeMatteis and even better than JMS, Marvel did the best thing by giving him the main Spidey titles)

Going Down Swinging (yeah another Slott story, his last)

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #310 (a good one-off story not tied to major events, we need more stories like these)

    Notable mentions

Death of Spider-Man (would have been a great story without Miles Morales and the Spider-people fashion, but I know I am minority here).

Spider-Man: life Story (not a fan of depressing and sad stories, didn't like the ending, but the first 4 parts were amazing)

I seconded this list (and ranking order), at least as far as 616 is concerned.

Overcall I'd say the Death Of Ultimate Spider-Man/The Rise of Miles Morales, fantastic stuff.

That's interesting. Would you say the '10s were a bad decade for Spider-Man overall?

Overall, in terms of the franchise no. I'd say it's been a decent decade (not great or special or anything). For 616 Spider-Man, I'd say mediocre more than bad. Of course some would say mediocrity is worse than outright failure.

The entire decade bet the farm on Dan Slott being a mega genius and in the insanely hyperbolic view of a few (Comics Cube people mostly) "best writer of Spider-Man ever, better than Lee-Ditko"and so on, neither claim is sustainable on close scrutiny. Most of Slott's run is mediocre, ran on bad melodrama, saturated with gimmicky events, and a lot of bizarre extreme caricaturish approach to long-time characters. That he worked with talented artists elevates it, and considering the fact that he works marvel style, i.e. doesn't turn in full script, I'd say he's offloading more on artists than he owns, not to mention that the largely self-proclaimed "historic" run (by Marvel if not by him) had 40 issues co-written by Christos Gage (and Spider-Man does tend to read better when Gage is at the helm).

But even then, the 2010s is a decade where AU versions of Spider-Man had a much bigger impact or influence more than any decade bef. Take a look at Into the Spider-Verse, it borrows the title from Slott's event but practically nothing else from his run, features characters (Miles, Spider-Gwen) that he had no say in developing and creating. Bendis' Ultimate Comics and stuff like Spider-Man loves Mary Jane from the last decade had a major influence on the MCU Spider-Man movies. Other stuff in those movies borrows ideas from JMS' run or older stories. It's not until the PS4 game that we see ideas from Slott's run adapted properly and even there it's mixed with Bendis' stuff for more widespread appeal (and likewise heavily altered and improved from the sources), while the DLC takes inspiration from stuff like Conway's Spiral.

in no particular order and since you didn't specify comics only:

    Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
    Sony PS4 Spider-Man
    Spider-Man: Homecoming/Spider-Man: Far From Home
Renew Your Vows by Gerry Conway & Ryan Stegman
Spider-Girls by Jody Houser & Andres Genolet
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man by Tom Taylor
    Spider-Men by Bendis & Pachelli
    "Back to Basics" Amazing Spider-Man
"Hunted" but especially Amazing Spider-Man 18.HU featuring the Gibbon
    Superior Foes
