Default The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live

It really feels like there's a new Walking Dead show every week.

It is the first new TWD entry since Darryl Dixon debuted in Oct and ended late November. FearTWD also concluded so that overlap no doubt lends to that feeling.

I'm looking forward to this. The WDU is finally going to pick back up on the Civic Republic threads laid out in World Beyond it seems.
I did wonder during Dead City why they didn't get some mention or visual easter egg since that show was in NYC and this one uses that as a backdrop also as well now.
I then expected Darryl's reason in Paris to be tied to the CR, nope, or at least it doesn't seem that way as now. Carol may kick some cans over next season.

TWDU is rolling out shows a bit like Paramont+ has done with Trek. Keeping 3-4 going at once with a few months spacing between.
The only more obvious offender is the CSI universe and/or NCIS, they both seem to be fraternal twins.

Doctor Who also used to have Torchwood and Sarah Jane going on at the same time, along with a making-of program during the first RTD era as well. Plus the K9 show but that was kind of it's own weird thing.

Daryl and World Beyond seemed to toy with the "variants" although I think Daryl's show seemed to imply that some of the variants are man-made somehow (Such as the "burning blood" versions).

Maybe the "smarter" walkers in the commonwealth had some kind of artificial enhancement-we know from the old CDC episode the Virus "relights" very basic parts of the brain like some motor functions like walking, eating etc. just not stuff like memory/instinct but maybe somebody turned on the "problem solving" parts.

Also FTWD had radiation burn out some of the "bite flu" without amputation it seems but it was hardly 100% (as we saw with Finch, who was better for a week but then succumbed again.).

    First episode was pretty good.

It's pretty much focused on Rick although Danai does show up as Michonne in several dream sequences and the cliffhanger.

Lincoin's Rick also gets a bit closer to his comic counterpart in appearance, although with a modification which might look similar to fans of a certain video game series.

World Beyond's Omaha does get a reference as well.

Seems they're setting up Terry O' Quinn as the main villain since obviously another character won't be, although also Jadis is right around the corner and might boss him around a bit like she did with Ormond's character in World Beyond.

Also interesting new supporting characters with Estefan and Thorne, although I kind of wonder if one of them are spying on Rick. Also for being the way they are at times the CRM seems to have a lot of people making escape plans/socialize out in the open...(Then again I suppose they're supposed to show their more 'friendly' side to the civilians, much like the Commonwealth did).

Gotta be interesting to see how Michonne's side of the story developed (including where she got the launcher).

Glad this has finally started. Hope it doesn't have a stupid midpoint break. I'd really like to finally watch all of this in April.

Not sure if it'll go beyond the first six episodes, as I think this was originally intended as a movie or movies, but got sidetracked by covid. It's also being advertised as a miniseries.

The Daryl series also seemed to indicate with a garbled radio message that someone came back to Alexandria/Commonwealth in Carol's radio message, although if it was Rick you'd think that'd be the first thing Carol would mention in such a message (Could be Heath or Jadis for all we know, or Michonne but empty-handed).

Second episode was of course Michonne's story and was a bit more typical Walking Dead, with the first part her making some friends on the search for Rick who of course wind up dead.

She reunites with Rick but of course has to be taken into CRM but Rick is still kind of stuck (and she seems to be keeping information about Rick Jr from him), and then Jadis who of course recognizes Michonne and has some special arrangement with Rick threathens to screw everything up.....

Third one is mainly Michonne getting increasingly frustrated with Rick trying to get her out-although Rick is doing it mainly under duress from Jadis's threats against Alexandria.

Rick's co-worker Pearl (Who I think probably has feelings for Rick) pretty much knows something's going on between Rick and Michonne. Although Rick says he drew his weapon to "back her up" maybe he was going to shoot her if she tried to kill Michonne.

So she just throws herself and Rick out of a helicopter. We also learn who's been making the mobile phone drawings and that he did some of Carl too (although we don't see them. Although you'd think maybe he'd have him draw Lori, he was his wife for at least a decade and Judith's biological mom).

I'm guessing next episode she'll probably reveal he has a son.

Latest episode is pretty much a "bottle" one with Rick and Michonne in a "smart" building with Michonne trying to reach Rick. Written by Danai as well.

No other cast apart from the building's voice over and the Walkers.

Today's episode ends one long-running character arc and features another familiar face.

Also looks like Rick and Michonne ended up in the west somewhere after the Helicopter jump as this episode is set in Yellowstone (with a store that seems to be actually in pretty good shape!) and we also have walkers that have hardened mud? armor from the geysers.

It'd be pretty cool if we finally find out what happened to Heath. Perhaps as a cliffhanger revealing he's in charge of the CRM perhaps?
