Condiment King- Really kid? You have my sympathies.
Yeah, it would have been better if it were a Dragon reference, in the same way Robin becomes better when it’s Dick referencing Robin Hood.

But it’s still just his last name.
Like action, adventure, rogues, and outlaws? Like anti-heroes, femme fatales, mysteries and thrillers?

I wrote a book with them. Outlaw’s Shadow: A Sherwood Noir. Robin Hood’s evil counterpart, Guy of Gisbourne, is the main character. Feel free to give it a look: https://read.amazon.com/kp/embed?asi...E2PKBNJFH76GQP

I voted for Drake. It would be a bad code name even if his surname wasn't Drake. I can't believe DC ever green lighted that persona.

A lot of dumb names to choose from.
    Red Robin
    Batwing
    Signal
But Drake edges them out for me.

it's wild that I'm not a fan if the bat on Duke's costume, and I was never super crazy about Signal as a name, but I never once realized just how much they inform the things I dislike about each other. that's....that's some impressive synergy for your ass right there.

this is pretty much where I stand on superhero names in general. the only bad names are the ones that conflict or hinder character. Drake was a weird choice and their reasoning in story was also weird and kinda....I wanna say demeaning but that feels both true but not quite the right word.

THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki

also, check out "The Signal Tape" a Duke Thomas fan project.

    currently following:
    • DC: Red Hood: The Hill
    • Marvel: TBD
    • Manga (Shonen/Seinen): One Piece, My Hero, Dandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Reincarnation of The Veteran Soldier, Oblivion Rouge, ORDEAL, The Breaker: Eternal Force

For a guy not growing up with the englisch language every englisch code name sounds cool.

Better not translate it into my language, lol.

Batwing is fine. Spoiler isn't bad but I admit I wonder how things would've gone if Steph had a different moniker. Drake could work as a superspy codename (think Grayson) but the fact they paired it with that ridiculous brown-and-yellow fecal matter costume didn't help. Orphan and Signal are both fucking stupid. But I voted for Orphan because Cass deserves so, so much better. Couldn't care less about Duke.

To be fair, the comic was called Grayson but in the book he was referred to as Agent 37. Using your surname as an alias is just nuts to me.

It’s like how Spider-Gwen’s name in her comics was actually Spider-Woman, and the former was just for the title and marketing purposes.

Would it be any better if Tim had a codename that SOUNDS something like Drake? I.e. Dragon, Draconis? Or are these still a bit too cringeworthy due to being a riff off his actual surname? (or due to sounding like a D&D character)

Well, if your surname is "Smith" it might be okay . . .

When I hear Drake I think Duck. I don't think dragon derivative names would help. You'd have to be pretty badass to pull them off and Tim is a 17 year old without powers. I have no idea what code name would suit him.
