DD is the one character that many who love comics also love, despite the fact that he's never quite broken out into A-list. He has many defining runs, and it's said that his best runs are some of the best in comic book storytelling. Look at Frank Miller, who redefined the character into a gritty noir that set the standard for today, and then topped it off with Born Again, which is viewed as being in the same league as Kraven's Last Hunt, the iconic '80s story of DD's more iconic friend.

This holds true today. Chip Zdarsky's new run is seen as being among the best of the new Marvel titles, with the general consensus being that they struck gold.

His only movie is from 2003... and it's something we don't talk about. On the other hand, his Netflix series was easily the best of the Marvel TV Universe, and indeed, the best among Netflix Originals in general. It was also the only one that held consistent top quality from start to finish, which the others can't lay claim to. However, it's still by Marvel TV, and amounts to expanded universe that might as well be non-canon since Marvel Studios doesn't treat them as though they were. Tellingly, when I hear people say they want the Marvel TV shows to get rebooted into the MCU proper, Daredevil is often the frontrunner of them. The idea being to make Daredevil a true A-lister in the MCU.

However, as it currently stands, DD is a B-lister. He's beloved, but not super iconic. There has never been a Daredevil animated series (one was pitched but never took off), DD's mythos is obscure to those who don't follow comics (even Charlie Cox didn't know he was blind before he auditioned for him), his adaptations are either bad or on the side, and he suffers from a general lack of exposure.

So it begs the question: Is there a hard B-lister that's as universally beloved as Daredevil?

Discuss.
