This was my first take too and I was less than thrilled with the idea (also gives clout to the "mutants are immortal" spoilers that were going around before HOX/POX started). But I think Hickman has built in two very clever stopgaps. One being the "5." Seems like a very fragile bunch if you ask me. Can they do this without eggs? Without time manipulation? Without the DNA? Without Proteus (who honestly feels like the most important... and dangerous... piece)? Also, you can't tell me this huge mess of villains that walked through the door aren't just ITCHING for some power. Apoc aside... not everyone here was in the bad guy game for the sake of mutantkind.

Death was already meaningless in the X-men. Too many already have died and returned. There are too many great characters that were killed off. It was time to lean into this and take things to a whole new level.

Yana also makes me wonder about the "best version of themselves" comment. Make sense with Jean, but looking at the New Mutants cover she's wearing a more modest outfit and carrying a different sword. Could it be that she's no longer affiliated with Limbo and basically just a teleporter who knows how to use a sword now? They established that they can age her egg to the time when she's of age to manifest mutant powers but it would skip the entire Belasco kidnapping and teaching her dark arts? Would she remember how to use magic? Is there a Darkchilde version of her still stomping around the military base while the pod person her remains "normal?"

That would very much upset me!

Also, they did mention that take very special precautions to make sure the original mutant is 100% dead before re-creating them.

True. She's a bit of an odd case. She "lost" her mutant powers and is effectively Darkchilde last we saw. So.... not dead, not a mutant...

Knowing the editorial team though, they'll just pretend it never happened.

I feel like this story has validated and reconciled every story, even the ones that seemed like outliers. Inferno, Hope, Muir Island Saga, Bendis Revolution, every dumb Sinister story. wow

An intriguing thing about the Five is the bond between them, that looks a lot like the bond Hope used to have with the Lights. Maybe that's her real mutant power.

I like to think that after his betrayal in Life 9 Moira told Xavier that they can use him for the DNA repository but under no circumstances should they trust him or allow him to do any kind of work without supervision.

Also about Franklin do you think that X wants him because they dont have his genetic material?
