I'm honestly always surprised at how little she's used despite her prominence in the lives of major X-Men characters.

She's Lobdell's creation. Claremont's Magneto/Xavier/Moira-Gabrielle are more than sufficient as the bedrock. She's a latter addition easily overlooked(as in the Fox-Men and Hickman runs). I don't necessarily dislike her, but I do think she's somewhat redundant. We already had Xavier's failed relationship with Moira. We already had Xavier using his power without consent on a [eventual] lover in Gabrielle(who is also commonly overlooked, so much so that she and Legion were subsumed in Moira/Proteus quite successfully I would posit in Millar's Ultimate X-Men).

There’s speculation that the current Xavier is Moira in an Xavier clone body. If this is true, you have your answer on why Amelia is not around.
