Default Your Top Ten Superpowered Combatants In The Marvel

Inspired by a similar list on the DC forum. List your top ten characters in the Marveul Universe that you feel are a great balance of power and skill.

    1) Dr Strange - The Sorcerer Supreme and arguably the best example of hard work gaining you great power among Marvel's heroes.

    2) Magneto - When writers really get creative, the Master of Magnetism is all but unbeatable.

    3) Black Panther - His combination of physical enhancements, knowledge and cunning make T'Challa illegible for this list.

    4) Caeira - Ah Caeira. If ever there was a character in the MU who was too cool to live (as TV Tropes would put it) it was you. The Oldstrong and the most powerful of Hulk's love interests.

    5) Super Skrull - He's got all the powers of the Fantastic Four and uses them in very deadly ways. One such example is stretching his arm to razor wire to slice enemies in half.

    6) Invisible Woman - Sue's come a long way since the early days of the Fantastic Four. She's even killed a Celestial.

    7) Carnage - It can be easy to forget how sadistically creative Kasady can be with his powers.

    8) Gamora - Her skill as a fighter and killer earns her this spot.

    9) Daredevil - With his martial arts knowledge and enhanced senses, Matt Murdock is one tough hero.

    10) Spider-Man - He may not be the toughest hero around but he can be very cunning. As Shang-Chi stated, he'd be an even better fighter if he didn't run his mouth so much.

I dont think anyone is more versatile at using their powers than Magneto. Even got to the wormhole level back before the House of M kicked off.

Definitely Spider-Man, definitely Hercules (imo, he's the most creative of anyone who's primary power is super strength, with Ben a notch or too behind), definitely Daredevil, definitely Magneto, definitely Deadpool. That's it for me.

Ant-Man beat up Doctor Doom. if we're talking about weight classes, this would be like jockey finding a way to overcome Jon Jones.

Weight classes aren't the focus. This is about which top ten super powered characters you think are the most skilled with their powers in battle.

he used his powers to tear Doom out of his armor, drag him out of his castle, and make him eat a tree branch. offhand, can you think of anyone else who has done that? keep in mind that the pym particles hadn't been used to do anything like this before.

    Luke Cage comes close.

Agreed. At the time, Cage was less than Spider-Man strength but his durability and continued hammering of Doom's armor was impressive. Also Doom was caught off guard never thinking someone would confront him over small amounts of money.

I like flying zappers or highly mobile combatants best, because they feel more visually dynamic than the sluggers or 'tanks.'

    So, in no particular order, the first seven I thought of;

    1) Charles Xavier. A tricky one, since he telepathically teaches his techniques to Jean, and they seem to proliferate to Emma, the Cuckoos, Psylocke, Rachel, Nate, etc. in short order. But he's taken the base ability to send and receive thoughts, and branched out into astral projection, mind control, emotion control, memory alteration, tampering with people's senses (making them see things that aren't there, or not see people who are there), instantly absorbing entire skillsets, instantly *teaching* entire languages and skillsets, mind shields, mental blasts, mind-switching/possession, etc., etc. (abilities that represent *the entire mutant power* of people like Mirage, Cypher, Karma, Prodigy, Scanner, Mastermind, Empath, etc. are just stunts he's learned with his one power!). Because these techniques get brain-dumped to Jean, Emma, Rachel, etc. pretty much as soon as the next writer comes along and assumes that because Xavier did it once, it must be something any fresh-from-the-womb telepath can do too, it's a bit dodgy to attribute this all to Charles, but he does seem to be the source of it.

    2) Invisible Woman. She's shown more and more skill, over the years, and it's pretty cool to see what she can do with her more rarely used abilities, like turning items invisible, or turning normally invisible things (like the air) visible (so seeming like she's 'creating fog'). And that's not even counting all the amazing stuff she can do with her force fields! Johnny and Ben tend to use their powers in a creative and versatile manner. Ironically, Reed, not so much, because he's got so much other stuff going on, and doesn't seem to spend as much of that amazing brain figuring out clever uses of his stretching power, in recent years.

    3) Cyclops. While other 'blaster' or 'artillery' X-Men like Banshee or Havok just sort of blast and blast and blast, he does some skillful tricks like ricochet shots. He also does some @$$pull stuff like slowing himself down when falling with his optic blasts, which is utter nonsense (he'd smash his eyes out the back of his skull if they had recoil!), so he loses points for that.

    4) Madrox. Kind of has to be clever in the use of his power to 'turn into an army of normal dudes.' When he creates a dupe outside of room he's locked into, or sends one out to learn a new language or skill or fighting technique, and then re-absorbs it to master that skill, or causes one to manifest *inside* a foe, exploding him from within (as he did to Mellencamp), I'm impressed with the creativity.

    5) Nova. Particularly in later years (post New Warriors, Annhilation-era) when he was more seasoned, and more of a flying blaster than a flying tank.

    6) Spider-Man. So graceful, and yet also powerful, and yet, best of all, so often forced to be creative in the use of tactics and his powers / equipment.

    7) Nightcrawler. Also super-acrobatic and flexible / creative in the use of his powers. Just fun to watch fight. Using his teleportation offensively? That's a neat twist.

I just really appreciate how Sue Storm has managed to make a naturally defensive power, very offensive. And her current book seems to be developing her invisibility powers, she can now change the colors of things and that's gonna lead to some really interesting stuff.

He definitely surprised Doom. But Scott actually let Doom know that he was coming and disabled Doom's defenses one-by-one. If we're talking about skill, I would say that it was a little more advanced than repeatedly punching his armor in the same spot. Doom wasn't enraged by Luke's attack. He admired his chutzpah. Doom went from annoyed to losing his **** when Scott man handled him. He dropped the pretense of nobility and went for a kill shot (hitting an illusion of Valeria). The only other time I have seen him that angry was against the Sentry.

On a side note, the late Dwayne McDuffie once said here on CBR in a reply to one of Brian Cronin's columns that he always hated that story. That's why he addressed it in his Damage Control mini series. We see that one of the embassy staff was embezzling money and denying payments to vendors, etc
