Default What had become of magic/sorcery and mythology by the timeframe of LSH?

The future of the DC Universe in the time frame of the Legion of Superheroes' era (e.g. the 30th/31st Century) seems to be devoid of magic/sorcery and mythology. The lineage of science-based superheroes of the 20th/21st Century such as Superman and Flash are evident, but nothing of sorcery or mythology-based characters such as Wonder Woman, Shazam, or Zatanna. What happened to sorcery and mythology in the 30th Century? Did an increasingly science and technology-oriented future simply forget that mystical forces existed?

They've had a planet known as Sorcerer's World where (in one version, anyway) all of Earth's mages relocated to. It debuted in the late '60s I think.

Whether its around now is up to Bendis, but there appears to be a version of Dr. Fate on the team now.

There was a LSH member named Thunder who was the future Shazam

Most other magic was usually represented by Mordru, the White Witch or Sorcerer's world. And there was the "Magic Wars" storyline that addressed magic in the 30th century.

Paul Levitz's last storyline in Legion in 1989 dealt with the 4-part Magic Wars. But to tell you the truth, I don't remember much about it other than Magnetic Lad sacrificed his life to save the universe.

But Mordru had gained at least some of his powers back in the 5-years-later Legion. And I remember Mysa having a dream about magic and when she woke up she realized she could still feel it.

    Combining multiple wikipedia sources:

"Thousands of years ago, magic levels on Earth began to drop due to the sleeping entity known as Darkworld beginning to wake up. The Atlantean sorceress, Citrina, struck a deal with the Lords of Chaos who ruled Gemworld, so she would be allowed to create a home there for those Homo magi and magic dependent species such as Faerie, Elves, Centaurs, and so forth who wished to emigrate from Earth. Gemworld was colonized by Homo magi emigrants from Earth made up of the twelve ruling houses of Atlantis." -Atlantis

"The Amethyst miniseries sees the characters' return from their fates and takes place about two decades later (time passes differently in Gemworld). Lord Topaz and Lady Turquoise are married and have three children: twin sons Wrynn and Donal, and four-year-old daughter Amber. The miniseries also sees the rise of Mordru in the form of Wrynn when he accidentally summons Flaw back to life. With the help of Flaw and The Lords of Chaos, Mordru transforms himself into a powerful sorcerer. He would become Amethyst's greatest enemy and goes on to plague the Legion of Super-Heroes in the 30th Century. " -Amethyst

"Sorcerers' World, also known as Zerox is a fictional planet, a comic book location appearing in titles published by DC Comics. Sorcerers' World first appeared as Zerox, the Sorcerers' Planet, in Action Comics vol. 1 #301 (June 1963), and was created by Leo Dorfman and Jim Mooney.[1] It was reintroduced as Zerox, the Sorcerers' World, in Adventure Comics vol. 1 #369 (June 1968), by Jim Shooter and Curt Swan." -Sorcerer's World

"A large number of magic-users, mystics, wizards and other arcane practitioners settled on Sorcerers' World, then known as Zerox, during the millennium before the 30th century. There, they practiced and refined their art, and were generally acknowledged as the most advanced users of magic in the known galaxy. The Legionnaire White Witch, from the planet Naltor, learned her sorcery on Zerox. The most famous sorcerer to arise from Zerox is undoubtedly Mordru. In a mystical coup, he seized control of the planet, gaining control of most of the other sorcerers on the planet. He then lead Zerox on a series of conquests that gained control of over half the galaxy, maintaining his capital on Zerox. When Mordru was finally defeated, a benign council of sorcerers assumed control of the planet.

"During the Great Darkness Saga storyline, the Sorcerers' World played a major role. First, the White Witch was attacked by the Servants of Darkness there, and later all five servants and their master Darkseid fought the Legion there, which though defeated, did manage to keep them away from the council, which had been working a ritual seeking a way to defeat Darkseid. The result of this ritual was a child, who turned out to be Izaya, aka the Highfather. Other noted planets with heavy magic use were Orando and Avalon. " -Sorcerer's World

"The White Witch played a prominent part in the so-called "Magic Wars", which concluded Legion of Super-Heroes (vol. 3).

"Some years later, after leaving the Legion, she married the presumedly-reformed Mordru and lived with him on the planet Tharn, which was, at that point, subdued and invaded by Mordru's magics. She was subjected to mystical imprisonment and manipulation during this period until the Legionnaires returned looking for her and their comrade Rond Vidar. Mysa was also a physical vessel for the disembodied soul of Amethyst, one of the Lords of Order who is currently active in the present day DC Universe. It was this incarnation of the Legion's near defeat that led Mysa to take up arms against her husband, and she later rejoined the group." -White Witch

"Sometime between the twentieth and thirtieth centuries, the other-dimensional planet called Gemworld was moved from its realm into our "scientific" universe and became known as Zerox, the Sorcerer's World.

"No longer a disc, the full planet was covered by oceans dotted with chains of islands, including the Teachers' Isle, home of the most powerful sorcerers on the planet. In the 30th century it had become the magic center of the galaxy, and the home of Mysa the Witch.

"In the late 30th Century, the entity known as the Archmage freed itself from the planet's crust and unleashed magic across the universe, thus starting the Magic Wars. The Legion of Super-Heroes was aided by Amethyst who advised the White Witch to let the Archmage destroy the planet. In doing so, it destroyed itself as well." -Zerox (DCUWiki)

"After the destruction of Zerox in an alternate timeline, most of the survivors (mostly sorcerers) resettled on Tharn. During the economic collapse of the galaxy (as featured in the v4 Legion of Super-Heroes, Tharn was undefended when threatened by the Khund. To face this menace, the ruling sorcerer's council restored Mordru's power to him. He defeated the Khunds and set himself up as Emperor. The Legion later confronted him when he held a Green Lantern captive, eventually winning his release (though the Lantern's power ring was destroyed)." -Tharn
