As you know, Gwen Poole's driving obsession is to continue featuring in Marvel Comics titles, either as her solo or a team book ("West Coast Avengers") in order to maintain her existence. After learning that "Gwenpool Strikes Back" is a mini, she challenges a selection of Marvel heroes to a battle royale fighting tournament, hoping that it would make her mini-series a successful run to green-light another title for her afterwards. Using her weaponized media awareness, she beats all opponents until, in Issue 5, she faces Kamala.
Ms. Marvel refuses to battle and tries to help Gwen by offering her own explanation for the latter's reality-warping powers: Kamala thinks Gwen is a mutant. This causes Gwen to stop fighting and, feeling her issue's pages running out, she fades away to the whitespace, musing at the notion that her awareness can be mistaken for a mutant power. Lo and behold, a Krakoan gate appears before her. She crosses, and ends up in Krakoa where Logan finds her. She begs off on having telepaths read her (since she IS technically faking to be a mutant; she still "knows" she used to be from our real world), but she does reconcile with Quire.
Gwenpool then pops back into the whitespace and sees that she now has a comic-book future, represented by in-progress pages branching out into multiple paths from the whitespace Krakoa gate. She realizes that her current self is only a transitory "bridge" character from her "Unbelievable Gwenpool" and "West Coast Avengers" portrayals, and the wise older version that appeared in the last issue of the "Unbelievable" run. She does decide to ensure that the next creatives that will be assigned to work on her will know where she leaves off, by creating a HoxPoxDox-style data page of her character profile. Then she thanks YOU the reader and walks back into the gate to Krakoa. |
