A couple travels to Sweden to visit a rural hometown's fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

Also known as Movie House Massacre.

Crappy z-budget slasher with a lot of goofy teen comedy stuff. It's not even a slasher parody per say, it seems like some lame comedy bits are thrown in around the kills. Also, it's maybe a haunting in addition to a mortal killer? It's not really clear on that.

One scene includes a fake trailer for "Alien Clown Whores of Hollywood", which would probably be a way better movie.

Synopsis: A prince returns home to honor his brother's dying wish, only to find his father's kingdom overran by zombies and his father's ministers seeking to take control.
Review: I've been trying to hold back from watching too many martial arts-themed horror movies this month, as I could probably overwhelm the rest of the list with just those alone if unchecked. Still, I figured I could indulge myself a bit tonight with some historical horror such as this. Overall, I enjoyed it. The atmosphere was nicely done with just how dire things were and the zombies remained a consistent threat. The only downside was the forced comic-relief character that always seems to worm their way into every movie and as cruel as it was, I was relieved when they were slain.

I feel like I forget about this one from time to time if I go too long without seeing it, but it really is a great horror/crime mashup. There's a lot to love about the movie, but I think my favorite parts are George Clooney having zero patience for the typical "do monsters exist?" discussion.

"And I don't wanna hear anything about 'I don't believe in vampires'. Because I don't fucking believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what I saw is fucking vampires."

"They looked like psychos, is that what they looked like? They were vampires. Psychos do not explode when sunlight hits them, I don't give a **** how crazy they are."

    The Addams Family
    2019, MGM

I've been a fan of the Addams Family since I was little, the mix of humor and slight horror was always a big hit for me so I was pumped to see that it was getting a new film especially as the character designs looked like they came right out of the original strips. And while I did love that look in action, and there were some great jokes(both visual and sarcastic one liners) the pacing was incredibly uneven. Part of me wonders if this would have been better served as a series of shorts rather than great character moments and gags strung together along a trite "we are better for our differences" coming of age story.

Synopsis: "Five strangers go with a tourist group to view old catacombs. Separated from the main group, they find themselves in a room with the mysterious Crypt Keeper, who details how each of the strangers may die." (Wikipedia Entry)
Review: I've been curious about this movie for a while, uncertain if it might have been related to the Tales from the Crypt televisions series and figured I would find out tonight. As someone who was a fan of the tv series since I was a child, I quickly realized most of the "stories" depicted in the movie were actually remade for the tv series, with the Christmas themed one following it, beat by beat. Overall, I enjoyed it, if only to see older versions of stories I had already enjoyed before.

Titled February in the U.K. Starring Lucy Boynton, Emma Roberts and Keirnan Shipka. A well acted, slow burn A24 chiller. Two girls are left behind at a boarding school during winter break and strange things go on. Emma Roberts is a runaway heading towards the same town for her own reasons. Not sure if I buy into a certain plot element.

The good: Great sets, a couple shockingly dark scenes from the 30s, and wonderful interplay between Karloff and Lugosi.
The bad: flat young leads, a villain inexplicably non-chalant about his sworn enemy visiting him, a climax too abrupt.

Another year, another horror anthology from Amicus that's entertaining enough but that I'll forget having seen the following year. Guess it's a good thing I'm writing this down!

These are always fun to watch the first time around, though, even if they don't stay with you like Hammer's stuff. Some good performances from Peter Cushing, David Warner, and a younger-than-I've-ever-seen-him Donald Pleasance.
