Found footage movie about people being stalked by a mysterious figure who can only be seen through a camera. Based on a youtube series that was based on the Slenderman stories, I believe. Quite well made. I think Alexandra Breckinridge was underused.

The horror hostess goes to a small town in Massachusetts where to collect a surprise inheritance including a rundown old house and a book coveted by her uncle. I read that they had wanted Tim Burton to direct it but he was making something else at the time. That's a shame, because what the movie really needs is some panache behind the lens. Cassandra Peterson's charm is on full display, but the movie feels like it needs more energy at times.

I've been waiting to watch this version of it for awhile. It almost has to be better than the theatrical version. It'd take an incredible feat to make it worse.

Roger Corman and Vincent Price barely adapting Poe is always a good time. There are 3 stories in this anthology, and for me the meat is all in the middle one, with Price's wine connoisseur befriending Peter Lorre's blind stinking drunk. But the first and third are enjoyable too.

29b. Hatchet III (2013)

Part of me wants to give this series credit for telling one story over 3 movies, each taking place on 3 consecutive nights. And the ending of this one does seem pretty conclusive. It's just...I know there's another.

I watched because this I saw it on a YouTube list of "underrated 80s slashers" and I hadn't heard of it before...that was a mistake. It feels like important scenes are missing, non-deranged characters behave in explicable ways, and much of it was so dark it was difficult to watch.

The setup is 6 women at a directors secluded house for a weekend-long audition. The best part of the movie is the killer's mask.

This is barely a movie at all. In 1992 they started filming a fourth one, it fell part, and then in 2012 someone took what little footage they had, and loosely tried to make it into a story filled with flashbacks from the first three. It looks crappy, sounds crappy, and the story doesn't work at all.

30a. Victor Crowley (2017)

The 4th in the Hatchet series, dropping that title for some reason. The beginning was real hard to get through this time; lots and lots of setup with incredibly unfunny comedy. But things get pretty good once the killing starts. I like that there actually had to be an inciting incident (perfunctory as it was) to resurrect Crowley this time, after his fairly definitive end in the previous movie.

30b. Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)

One of the few Halloween movies I hadn't seen, mainly because no cable channel ever seemed to be playing it come October and its reputation was bad enough to make me not want to buy it. And, yeah, it was awful. Bad in and of itself and worse because of all the setup it did for a story that would never be continued. This was the theatrical cut, so at least I got to see the version that maximized the "Michael killing people" stuff.

30c. The Walking Dead (1936)

Pretty disappointing, this one. It had a great premise: Karloff is framed for a murder and executed, then brought back to life by a scientist and goes after the gangsters who framed him. Not only is it not the best movie where Karloff is brought back to life by a scientist, it's not even the best movie where Karloff is executed for a crime and then comes back to get revenge! (That would be The Man They Could Not Hang, which was pretty good)

One of my faves discovered in recent years. Horror/dark comedy anthology about a Halloween party town visited by the mischievous and vengeful spirit of Samhain.

Also known as Halloween Night and Death Mask. A comically bad slasher. A redneck Satanist grampa grooms one of his grandkids to follow in his footsteps. The mom doesn't like this, the other kids don't take grampa seriously, and trouble'd teen grows up to fantasize about music videos. It's an odd film, there's a scene where a guy at a party seemingly just goes into his second-rate stand up comedy routine. Friend of the director, maybe?

Actually watching this currently. Haven't seen the whole thing in quite a long time. As a kid I developed a crush on Winona Ryder that persists to this day. Keaton is great of course, but so is the whole cast.
A couple dies in a freak accident, find themselves haunting their own house and hating the new tenants who want to remodel the whole place and ruin their treasured belongs. Their own attempts at scaring them away aren't successful. So, who ya gonna' call?
