My look at the final issue of this epic.
Just wanted to say how much I've appreciated these retrospectives. It IS pretty darned amazing how this mini-series is a fitting capstone to the DC and Marvel Universes before Everything Went To Hell*, isn't it?
* For a certain population of fanboys. YMMV.
I appreciate your appreciation.
And yeah, it didn't strike me until I finished re-reading the series that it was on the eve of things just going straight to hell at both companies, at least from where I sat. I was never a fan of Brian Michael Bendis' writing (Although to be fair I thought Chuck Austin's brief run on Avengers was atrocious, a harbinger of things to come.) and Mark Millar...
Well, what I want to say about him would get me banned. I also can't talk about how I truly feel about Brad Meltzer either. Suffice to say I don't know what caused the writers and editors at the time to think fans wants grimdark comics with super heroes hating each other. I dunno, I guess these comics sold well enough because they kept doing it, didn't they? And yeah, there was something novel about the concept I suppose but it just felt like continuous character assassination. At this point I only buy a handful of comics and save my money to buy old hardcover trades through my comic book store.
I too would like to express my thanks for your retrospectives.
Also, who is the guy in gold with the arm cannon and the woman being blasted by Wasp in this shot.
